I have a question for people in Dod. Does having switches on your ethernet cables slow connection down? I know I should buy one solid cord but 100 ft cords are exspensive. Usually I would post this in the Tech thread but most the time people from Dod answer anyways. I'm sure some of you notice me not being around a whole lot mostly because of my internet. I am getting on more now because we stepped it up a little. A whopping 768K Down and 512 K Up now haha.

Switches in linear connections, which is what you described above, should not degrade your speed significantly. Modems will decrease speed if multiple computers are connected, but a pure switch should not.

Of course, a single cord will always be the best solution, but I doubt the connection issues I have seen you experience in-game are caused by a switch.

However, if any one of your switches have conflicting firmware, are faulty, or have built-in firewalls that are turned on, this can slow your connection for sure.

Go buy a long enough ethernet cable would be my advice, they are relatively cheap. Also, how many switches are we talking about here?

Um it was 2 switches. I live in an apartment and have to run my cord a good way for my internet. It seems I only pick up about 150 K Down and 150 K Up. I have recently switched it to one switch and it vastly improved. I use netgear for them.

sounds like your switch is acting like a modem if you picked up that much performance.
