I agree, and disagree. (I know he already retired) He has taken the football program to extreme heights. And not just the football program. With football, the school's name was spread nationally and globally even. Everyone in America knows what Penn State is, this was not as much so before he came into the scene. His win/loss ratio is over 3:1, and that's of 548 games. He has made this program legendary, his name as well as the Penn State Nittany Lions are known everywhere. He has made, in my opinion, the best football dynasty (Not just college), even compared to Vince Lombardi.
Now, I'm not saying he should not have stepped down because of the above paragraph, although that should not fall out of mind. The reason I think he should have stayed Penn State's head football coach, is because he did what he could and should have done, in my opinion. When he first learned, he went to the school. I believe it's the school's fault for not following up at least, or going to the police at the first sign. I'm sorry but - no matter what you're a part of, what you have done, who you are, or what you can do should exclude you from the United States legal system. ESPECIALLY the crimes he has committed. I won't go into detail, but that is just low. Very low. Not only that, but those college players were being coached by this man. I don't know if you have played sports or not, but I do. And I can say, my biggest role models are indeed my coaches. I can go to them for anything. They are ALMOST as close to me as my parents, and my best friends. I have full 200% trust in them that they are telling me the right and best things to do. I even go to them for relationship advice. They are probably the most influential people in my life. This, I can tell you, is the relationship between ALL football players and coaches, especially in college.
I believe that it is the school's fault for not going to the police, as I explained. Crimes committed against children, especially in a sexual manner is inexcusable, and this is not Joe Paterno's fault for not reporting it to the police. He reported it to his bosses\the school board and officials. They didn't go to the police.
