Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Gabe.

This is only concerning Steam forum accounts. At this time there are not any reports of hacked Steam accounts. As it says in the message if your accounts have the same password, it is highly suggested that you change this password. The forum has been locked down and will reopen following their investigation.

Again, at this time if you notice suspicious activity on your credit cards or payment systems, have the statements stopped and contact your credit card company.

Its still good to put this on the front page for people to change their PW just to be safe.

I did, and deauthorized all other computers on Steam Guard. You can never be too safe

Yeah probably good to re-warn people, because if someone with steam somehow didn't see this message (popped up on me and my room-mate) I might be worried for them.

Im going to bring it up dead tom, you know I have to. At the beginning. Sony did not tell everyone the extent the PSN had been hacked. They merely assumed it was only to a certain extent, then they hit everyone with the fact that thier personal details had been stolen. Do not take the chance. Change your PW, go to your bank and do whatever you need to do with your CC info, and wait for the final word from steam.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst. We dont know what happened at steam, all we know is they were hacked.

Wow, I figured this would be on the front page by now.

If you have Steam you got the message, I don't think it needs to be front page. Not all of our games are steam-based so it's not relevant for a lot of the clan. I think as long as it stays on the front page of our main forum it's serving its purpose.

I changed my password just to be safe, and I'd recommend everyone doing that anyways. I've heard it said you should be changing your password every 4-5 months anyways.
