After having an obvious hacker on one of the Source servers, here's what I noticed:

  • The admin was too busy doing something (maybe playing - not sure who the admin was) to bother listening to the 10 people complaining.

  • The admin was too busy kicking people who were complaining/cursing when he could have been dealing with the hacker.

I can understand kicking those accusing someone of hacking and "disrespecting the admin." But priority should have gone to the hacker, not the ones breaking minor rules.

Ban me permanently for "admin disrespect," I don't care. But taking over an hour to get a hacker banned is ridiculous. I don't know if this is because of the level of bureaucracy involved - recording demos and then consulting with other admins, or what. But it should never take that long.

Let the flaming begin.

I completely agree with you on that. I, myself, have run into the issue of having a blatant hacker in the server and I had to sit there and listen to people complain about it. The reason, I'm guessing as it's the rules, that he wasn't dealt with is because exactly what you said, we have to record a demo and submit it so that they can be globally banned, and then it is forwarded onto Steam so that they can have their steamID banned as well. Unless the rules have changed, which I don't think they have been, that's how it has been for years.

I do understand your frustration with it, I share it as well. But as of right now, I think it's just something that we all have to deal with. Sorry you had such a bad experience =\ Hopefully it won't happen again.
