Yep, thats right. Steam is both a dastardly genius and an evil mastermind. Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is on sale on Steam for 4.99 (6.29 for the Deluxe version). It is the GOTY version.

I'm not here to promote it, but just to state I am both pissed/excited about this considering I bought Skyrim on Day One and saw this. The question is: Are you happy with this sort of marketing ploy?

It certainly sounds like a good idea to me. I'm impressed, not really anything else.

This is an excellent marketing ploy! This will introduce a game to players who would otherwise not even care about this series, for a very low price. It seems they are confident new players to the series will go on ahead and purchase Skyrim soon after they finish Oblivion. They're making money either way.

Smart.

i bought it for 5 bucks (GOTY) a while back ona christmas special sale, but then again i bought it retail at full price when it first came out, i only bought it again because it was so cheap and i had lost my oblivion activation code and i figured 5 bucks for a new copy AND every DLC was worth it since all teh DLC alone would have cost more than 5 dallors normally anyway

Oblivion GOTY was $5 for me too a while back.

I don't see why people would get upset, unless they bought Oblivion a few weeks ago to prepare for Skyrim, but still it's worth $20 easily.

First off I would like to say: preparing for a game= so sad.
Second: I understand that steam is trying to cash in on Skyrim further by selling Oblivion for so cheap. Those who can't afford Skyrim will most likely buy Oblivion, if they did not have it already.

I agree, it is very sad that people play a prequel before the sequel, or that they would have the audacity to upgrade their machines in preparation of a release! Absolutely pathetic.

As to the topic at hand (ie. not sarcastic anymore), this is a great marketing ploy- $5 for over 200 hours of unique stuff to do? Yes please!

Agreed. If you were new to the series before Skyrim came out, why not buy Oblivion to at least get a general taste and feel? I would recommend Morrowind to start out on though, to understand the concept and world a little more.

If I didn't have base game Oblivion on my PC and Oblivion GOTY Edition on the 360, I'd be all over this.
The same is with the case whenever FO3 GOTY Edition goes on sale...

This entire post is exactly what i was going to say - good job reading my mind you minder reader.
