...One about Treasure? Well this isn't the Borderlands opening cut scene so no your not going to hear about treasure and if you're really that dissapointed then i'll tell another story later involving treasure just for you...

But back to the story: I went hunting this week. Nothing too special happened the first 2 days. A simple afternoon in the stand, re-reading The Hunger Games since my sister loaned it to me on Kindle, drinking a Dr. Pepper, and not seeing a single deer. Then we go to another lease that we hunt on. Day one there, same scenario but this time, does out the wazoo. A lot were looking good at the two feeders we had, but we were being greedy. I wouldn't shoot until i saw at least 1 buck. Finally, one came out for about 3 seconds. He came in, turned to me, then turned around and left. Bummer. I look over at the does at the other feeder. All gone. i was pretty dissapointed. But i didn't give up. The next morning (this morning) around 5:30 AM i got up in my ghillie suit, had a cross-draw vest on with 10 turkey-shot 20 Gauge shells and my trusty Glock inside it, and went and hid in some, rather painful, thorn bushes. I sat there, from dark till dawn, and saw absolutely nothing except for this cute little squirrel which was like 2 inches away from me nibbling on what seemed like tree bark. What seemed like 2 hours later (actually 45 minutes) i hear twigs crunching behind me. I think "Oh boy! Deer!" so i wait, and wait, and after about 20 minutes of waiting nothing comes out. I nearly give up and come out of my spot in the trees because of my bad luck and because of how chilled the air has gotten because of the wind, when a decent sized doe walks out by the feeder. I'm telling you i was literally 2 feet from her. Its at this point when you forget your hunting because you get caught up in the beauty of nature. But eventually i snapped out of it and reached for my shotgun. while i was reaching for it, my hand got cut on a thorn bush which made me flinch. The doe saw it stared me in the eyes, and without thinking i grabbed my shotgun and pulled the trigger. 2 problems with this.
A)That was stupid because the deer would have been gone in less than 2 seconds.
B)The safety was on :facewall:
Alright so what have we learned kiddies? A) don't be an idiot when you go hunting. B) The safety sucks in most cases that i deal with *see above* C) I should have brought my AK-47 -_-

Thank you for reading my very very VERY long story, and congrats to those who got those awards that i missed. Anyone want to fill me in on whatever else i missed, please go right ahead.

BTW, I shot a 1911 this week. Got to say, i may "misplace" my Glock at my uncle's gun shop and magically get a 1911....Yeah i'm in Gun Love <3

Got to love that safety.:)jk

But really, that's to bad. The safety on a firearm has thwarted my brother countless of times.

Nice story. Hunting is boring as hell except when and if you actually see some game.

I don't like Glocks because they're uncomfortable guns with a lack of good ergonomics and they are overhyped as being extremely dependable (they are but plenty of other guns are equally reliable). I think the lesson you should draw is that you should always be familiar with the guns you shoot. Trying to shoot a gun with the safety on is user-error and training to remove the safety should have rid you of making such a mistake. Sumac listed some great firearms but I'm partial to the Beretta 92 series-- the most accurate handgun I've ever shot.

Most accurate handgun I have ever shot out of the box is the Sig P220. This is a fantastic handgun and one of my conceal carries even though it's a bit big. I have fired Kimber, H&K, Springfiled, Beretta, Sig Sauer, Glock, S&W, Highpoint (made Glock look like an amazing firearm), Browning, Colt, and I am sure a few others like the Highpoint that I wanted to throw at the target for better accuracy past 10 yards.

The Sig P220 was the most accurate for me. Next if I had to remember I would guess would be the Kimber/H&K/Beretta in that order or with Beretta after Kimber. Everything else would follow with Glock near the end of the list and the Highpoint or anything made in the old Soviet Bloc at the end. This is obviously not going to be the results for everyone that fires these guns, just myself, but I would bet the Sig to be high on anyone's list.

Also, if you don't like having a safety or have issues with them, the Sig doesn't have one.

Honestly I side with stormy. Being military I am a HUGE safty person, meaning the safty is ALWAYS on until you are ready to shoot. and you better be ready for the damage that will ensue beyond your target, which you would have had more of if you had just reached and shot - especailly with birdshot - trust me i know.

aside from that - I'm partial to Kimber myself. One of my closest friends has a Kimber Rapter - 1911....OMG - that is the most comfortable pistol I have ever held and fired. It is also the most accurate .45 i've shot -- but again thats because i'm partial to kimber.

So far the most accurate handgun I've ever shot is my S&W .40 sigma. It's very comfortable to shoot and fits just right in my hands.
