Cyber Monday studio headphones

Hola guys,

Well this Cyber Monday I am going to be ordering the Beats by Dr. Dre Pro headphones off [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Beats-Pro-High-Performance-Headphones-White/dp/B003I65U4Y/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1322444447&sr=8-10"]amazon[/ame]. I was wondering if anyone had any previous use with these headphones before? I have only listened to the display models at Best Buy. What was your final impression on the headphones? I like listening to Pop, Rap, Hip Hop that kind of music and that is why I was impressed with these headphones. What do you guys think?

I would strongly recommend that you do some research on sites such as head-fi.org before buying those. There are much better options out there for the money. I personally find them unbalanced and bass heavy. Even for rap, etc. there are much better can or iem options out there. They are manufactured by Monster, so that should give you an idea of what kind of price/performance ratio to expect. Gotta pay for those advertisements and celebrity endorsements somehow...

I'm with Sn1per on this one, Oberst. I'm not the biggest audiophile, but while I found them nice, even great, it felt too heavy on the bass for me, and for the money, there are definitely better cans to get. Now if they were down to about $250, I'd shut up and say go for it.

beats-overpriced, quite heavy on the bass and sometimes way to much, ur paying for the endorsement, performance to price value isn't that great, u can definitely find something better, build quality is questionable, i had a friend who had the studios, solos, and in-ears, they all broke in less than a year and he takes good care of his stuff.
On the plus side they are quite stylish. THEY ARE MAINLY A FASHION STATEMENT (except the pros, the pros are better than the rest but are still overpriced)
I would recommend sennheiser HD515,518, only if u dont care that it is an open headphone
and they aren't as nice as beats.
If u want closed headphones get the HD448, HD380
All of these are $100-300

Maybe for $200 :/ for 300$ I'd go AKG 272 for closed ones, they have that retro look which I think looks better than the beats. Or the HDJ2000 if you really like bass.

I used to have the studios and I sold it and used the money for bc2,my ATH-M50s and 180$ in pocket change. My m50s sound TONS better and felt like it was actually worth over 100$(got it for 115$ at guitar center)

There are also open headphones for soundstage which is better if you're going to be using it for mostly gaming. I got my m50s because I do listen to music 60% of the time and 40% gaming.

Dude for $300 you can buy some amazing headphones, hifi sound. Depending on your listening enviroment..I use Sony MDR 7506's they cost around $90 and they are the industry standard for what I do (live/studio audio and audio for video). For that price point and up to several hundred, you can buy several different models of Grado, considered some of the finest headphones made. I have listened to the their whole product line and they all sound amazing, even the cheaper models. Gradolabs.com. One important thing to note, is that the Sony's are closed backs and the Grado's all open meaning you can still hear outside noises.

dont forget about the enviornment you listen in, you would normally use open back headphones in quite places like a studio or ur home and u would use closed back ones in a noisy areas (in public, trains, buses, on the streets).
Open back have a better soundstage (the music comibnations, the different insturments, the depth of the music and richness) than closed headphones, usually there is more clairity with open back ones. They will also keep ur ears cooler since they allow air to come in.
Closed back headphones gives u better noise cancelling, but the soundstage is smaller.

That is exactly what they used at the recording studio I interned at in high school.
