I've used custom controls since Q1 before WSAD was the default and they were the arrow keys. Here is how they stand for almost every game I play.

EDSF & Surrounding Keys. [aqw123456rtyghzxcvb]

EDSF

Mouse2 = Jump
Space = Alternate Fire / Use / Action / Sights
LCtrl = Use (CS)
C = Crouch
Shift = Walk
A = Special / Last Inventory (CS)

============================

I play with a guy on Quake Live whos been playing since Q1. He uses the most clunky setup i think ive ever heard.

M = Left
, = Right
space = jump
alt = shoot
M1 = forward
M2 = backwards

He also plays Inverted. I used to play inverted back in the day, but i stopped playing for a long time and it became unnatural.

WASD

Mouse1 = Fire
Mouse2 = Jump
Mouse4 = Alt-Fire
Mouse5 = In-Game VOIP (Vent is Left-Alt)

Space = Crouch
Shift = Sprint/Walk
E = Use

Then it really depends on the game, but other than those keys above I'll usually just use whatever the defaults are.

ESDF
A = Left Lean
G = Right Lean
W = Interact/Use
U = Universal/Public Chat
Y = Team Chat
V = Bind messages (VGW!)
SHIFT or C = Crouch
CTRL = Crouch
Spacebar = Jump

Mouse1 = Fire
Mouse2 = Aim/Jetpack (VGW!)
Mouse3 (Middle mouse button) = Grenades
Mouse4 = Melee (Vice Versa with M5)
Mouse5 = Sprint/Hold Breath (Vice Versa with M4)

I usually switch is so that shift is crouch and control is walk (spring for DOD). Jump with space.

I heard of one really weird scheme where mouse 1 moves forward, mouse 2 moves back, A and S for strafing, D and F for shooting/secondary or something like that.

For CS:S I use:

WASD
Mouse 1: Fire
Mouse 2: Silencer/Right click knife
Mouse 3: Grenade
Mouse 4: Flash grenade
Mousewheel down: Jump

And I use my up,down,left, and right arrow keys as buy binds.
I can't really imagine playing a FPS with arrow keys and a mouse.

depending on the game, sense i play a lot of RPG's....I'll bind and use the "G" keys of my G110.

but primaries are:

wasd
m1-fire
m2-alt/aim
m3-grenade/thrown item
lcontrol - toggle crouch
lshift - toggle run/sprint

forward - M2
back - c
strafe left - x
strafe right - v
fire - M1
crouch - z
alt fire - shift
jump - space

It's nice to see another EDSF. :) *shakes hand* I have a lot of respect for EDSF Players.

wasd

m1 fire
m2 ads
mouse scroll change wep (have to change this, seems its scrolling by itself)
m3 grenades
m4 rpg
m5 knife

ctrl crouch
shift sprint
space jump

I might try the esdf one, seems more comfortable. Getting pain on my hand when trying to lean.

Do it. it does wonders. and btw, your avatar is freaking me out man.

I started PC FPSing with Counter-Strike, so I tend to use the defaults for that with some modifications for games with more buttons. WASD with e as a use key, M1 fire, M2 secondary/sights, q as a quick switch key, control as a hold crouch key, shift as a movement speed modifier, f as a flashlight (or, if leaning is in the game, it's the new use button; also BF3 is weird so I use it for melee in that), c or x is toggle crouch, z is toggle prone, v is talk over the mic or melee (BF3 messes everything up, making me change firing modes with that button, making sense).

This does not bother my hand at all. I play with my fingers arched, the right way, the way I learned playing the piano, the way that is healthy for them.

Also, gotta use those number keys for changing weapons.
