Over the past week I've been doing a lot of research about Operation Shingle. For those who don't know, Operation Shingle was the operation behind the Allied capture of Anzio and Nettuno, Italy during WWII.

I've made a "game plan" for operation Shingle, and wanted to share it with you. I'm hoping to make more of these for various DoD:S maps, because making this was quite fun.

This is the first time I've made something like this, and I'm quite pleased with it. I may be making changes to the file if need be, so I'll post a changelog if I do. If you have any comments or suggestions for me, feel free to reply!

File is too big to upload, so you can view it here! (.pdf format)

Realism would be more real if the CO's did this and distributed the pdf to their units before the game took place, instead of coming up with a plan mentally and trying to explain it over vent.

Very cool Timr. For a first attempt or a fifth, looks great.

As for having Cinc's do this, they already do much more than you see for each battle. The time required to keep things running smoothly as a Cinc is far and above that of any other player during the campaign. If a Cinc wants to spend more time to do this, I see no issue at all with that, but we will never require something like that of them.

And no, the TAs have even less time for this. If however you wanted to create basic templates for the Cincs or for forum posts prior to the battles, knock your socks off.

As a side to this however, it is a great idea and would contribute to the 'immersive' nature of realism. If this is something you would like to do for the campaign in general, I can assist you with integrating something like this into battle posts. It would be akin to what Compton was working on with the journals. I would love to see 'non-COs' or former COs get more involved with the realism campaign in things of this nature. If you have more ideas like this, please PM them to me and prior to the next campaign I would be happy to make a forum post with the ideas and interested parties could group together to work on them. A bit of a heads up though, people's time they are able to commit and interest waxes and wanes so you might end up working on this solo even if you start with a team of five or six.

Sumac did a good job addressing this one, but I will expand on it because my CO's (if any of them were around :P) can tell you that I did probably put as much time into Realism as all other CINCs combined.

The main problem is team apathy. Guys are excited at the start but it diminishes more and more each week.

I quite literally DID have maps drawn out--much more detailed than this, in fact. I had them marked off with supplemental screenshots and went over that week's "gameplan" daily with my CO's. We had three-times-weekly strategy meetings in-game that pretty much only us CO's would attend (yes they were made known to all) and everybody on the team was made aware that we could jump in-game at any time to go over things.

We had exact plans of attack complete with contingency plans and backup moves based on different MG/sniper/rocket positions. In the end, however, people really didn't want to have things planned--90% of people just wanted to show up the night of, be told which way to go, and see how things turn out.

EDIT: Seriously, I am not kidding...I lived and breathed Realism while I was CINC. I knew every leaf and rock on every map and I always say I had the best CO's ever because they put up with my constant (I seriously meant that "daily" part) bugging them about things, down to the last minute detail. Even our simplified version--since we had to immediately tone things down--was just too much for people. The most detail you can go in is telling which classes to go which way--and hope they do it.

Pay attention future CO's, This is one reason he won. Taking notes is STRONGLY suggested.

As they have said way to much to have a cinc do every week. From being in command staff to being a Cinc of campaign last round as cinc you put your heart and mind into the team. Always spending hours and hours looking over maps and plans. Command staff as well does the same.

Oh it was beyond just "winning" ;) lol

No but seriously...I suggest NOT taking it on as much as I did. Let's all keep in mind that I was unemployed at the time and football wasn't in full swing yet, so I had pretty much all the time in the world.

Thats pretty damn cool Timarrrrrrr. Im a fan of pictures, needs more pictures. :)
