Honestly I have no idea how to fix this. Have you checked on the Official Battlefield 3 forums?
Everything was saying that either the server or I wasn't updated, so i thought i'd give it a few hours.
Guess that's not the case, and im debating whether or not to download this software from this unofficial-looking site http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php to update it
just kinda hoping itll update itsself soon, gonna give it a couple more hours
Is there a good way of reinstalling it? i first got it with my copy of bc2 (steam) and it just kinda came with it. Im sure its buried in the steam files or something, but i dont really wanna mess with it. Gaben will come after me.

That site is legit, its Punkbusters official site. I had a friend who had a similar problem, he fixed it by reinstalling the whole game through origin, but first I would try right clicking Battlefield 3 under the my games list, and having it Check for Update and Repair Install.

Run a malware check,I had a similar problem with BC2, and picked up some bad stuff somewhere, causing pb to kick me when trying to play. Ran the malware and found some trojans,removed them and it fixed the issue.

Argh AoiMaiden you seem to be having a lot of problems with crashes so I felt compelled to post...
Heres what I found:
Perhaps try deleteting and recreating the PB folder as Administrator

1) The problem is caused by the" Vista Virtual folder issue". When using vista your player profile and pb files are stored in the" Virtual Store". I found that when I updated punkbuster it only updated the pb folder that is in the main folder in programs and not the virtual store. I had to copy the pb folder from the main folder and paste to the pb folder in the virtual store. After this I was able to play.
2) Most common causes of this particular kick are either;
A firewall issue or Not logged in as admin of your own PC.
Try running pbsetup.exe to make sure your PB is fully up to date also Update PB services;

3) If all that still = fail, open a troubleticket with Even Balance and explain your problem in detail.
Try to include the result of this;
Join a PB server, and drop the console with ~, then type pb_logtofile 1 and then pb_writecfg Wait until you get kicked. Now check your ..\pb folder for a file called pbcl.log If you have hidden your file extensions, please make sure you open pbcl.log and not pbcllog.cfg! or pbcl.db Paste the line from there into a new note.
Please note: Users of Windows Vista and above will find that file under "C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\[game]\pb". To find that folder, enter "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\" to the navigation bar in your Windows Explorer, as some folders in this path might be hidden folders. Unless you activated the option to see hidden folders, you will need to enter the correct path directly into the navigation bar.
In case the kick occurs too fast to type the commands, go to your PB folder and create a plain text file "pbcl.cfg" in it (use a text editor like "Notepad", make sure it has no additional '.txt' extension). Put the text "pb_logtofile 1" as a single line to it. Then save the file and join a PB enabled server. After getting kicked, you should have a file "pbcl.log" in the PB folder.
