I know it is early to start a discussion on this topic, but better now so we can dive right into guild endgame.

Operations in SWTOR shall have room for 8 or 16 players and apparently 4 levels of diffculty, I believe that the guilds (republic and Empire) will quickly exceed that number of level 50s. In that case, it is important that some sort of structure be set up to facilitate the fairest possible attendance to operations. This could be a minimal structure where first come first serve is king, or there can be a serious operation group that runs scheduled operations with a preset membership or sign ups. there are various methods for organizing Operations, and if we figure it out before we all get 50, then we can dive right in. (i struggled to not say raid >.< )

Once Operations begin there will be the issue of loot. Right now there seems to be a NEED/GREED/PASS function, and I believe a MASTER LOOT function as well (confirm this??). We could use an honor system with NGP, or ML could be used in conjunction with rolling, or there could be some sort of attendance point system (DKP nostalgia >.< ).

Just wanted to drop these issues on the forums to gauge peoples opinions and preferences. I plan on going WAY HARDCORE when it comes to Operations, so thats why I dropped these specific issues. Leave your two cents.

I'm glad you posted this.

Loot should be a random roll for everyone on the raid.

Everything else we come up with will be fine by me. This is the only rule I care about on raids from my experience with Daoc.

*omg, I didn't talk about WoW. :P

What about gear that is obviously for certain classes? do we ignore that because companions can use it? Do players get priority over companions?

One way we handled loot priorities for RAIDS in another MMO game and guild I was in was raid participation, the players that attended those raids often increased their odds of being rolled the loot (roll was some 3rd party program not sure exactly what it was) and new attendees got a slimmer chance due to the previous raid members returning for their chance. Now with this said the loot from these raids were 1 guaranteed drop of only 1 specific item or set so once you won the roll you had no need to win the loot again. Not sure if anything like that would work for this game but its just a thought.

it has begun! xD in any case count me in for main raider status as i will be one of the first 50s in our guild i am hoping :))))))))

Well, I am sure that SW:TOR Leadership will make rules on how loot goes out during operations. From what I think will happen there will be the Operation Leader and the leader passes out loot, meaning vent will be used during operations.

Operations will probably take place as events within the division. The events (I'm guessing) will probably be organized by the Event Coordinators. So the event may have it's own looting rules.

But starting on the 15th (early access) and the 20th the main goal will probably be to get everyone to level 50 and decently geared. There has to be an order of how things are going to go with the launch.

First priority is to get people leveled up.
Second is to get people geared in small 5 mans - While this is going on, locate and assign Tank, Heal, and DPS roles.
Third is to start progressing the guild in operations by moving up to 10 mans etc..

While doing all this, people should also help people who need to get leveled and work on crafting.

Personally, I will be focusing on PvP, but PvE is part of the guild, so I will give my hand to PvE as needed.

Well raiding will not be done by EC's, it will be done by Medviah and Seablade . Seablade and I already know what we are going to do for the raiding. If you have any questions just pm me.
Also as a side note, it will be master looter, vent req. At first it will be first come until we can get a general idea to see who is coming and who is not, then make cores for raiding. I have done this before so do not worry.

Or you know . . . You people could actually get in vent and talk to me about this

Why not just have the information out in the open where everyone can reference it without having to PM you or listen to someone tell it once on Vent?

If you want a official Response wait until tomarrow, the thing is though it is going to be changing probably. That is one of the reasons why I don't want to make it a official response, that is the reason I wanted to talk to people in vent.

the people have spoken i have posted we have lawl'd and i got joooce -Want Some? PST Seablade

I know a lot of you want answers here and now, and we wish we can give it to you. As the we get closer to to release date, as the game progresses and might change things, we will have more information on as to what we will set as rules.

You'll most likely see a lot of changes from leaderships' side in the first few weeks, depending on game-content change and feedback from you guys.

All information that you guys need will eventually be posted in a public thread. Until then, simply PM'ing leadership with questions is your best, and quickest, way to get answers.

Just wanted to say thanks for all these opinions and official stances, I never meant to rush the decision making, just wanted to start a conversation to burn time until the game comes out.

I trust you guys (Zeak, Medviah, Seablade) to the ends of the galaxy, and I will be a most faithful servant of the Empire Guild. Whatever rules you make, I will just be happy to be doing Operations.

Through victory my chains are broken, the force shall set me free!

Just going to preface this by saying I'm just discussing things, not trying to influence the leadership's decisions by any means. Throwing out my opinions based on experience.

From my time leading raids and/or guilds in various MMOs, I'd tend to say that given the size of our membership and the size of the raids, a points system would not work well for us. If there are more people wanting to raid than can fit in the raid, it presents issues.

If you give the standby people points, people will log on for raid time when they hadn't planned to actually raid and then "kindly" give up their spot to someone else to get the free points and then log. So you enact a rule that they have to be online during the duration, mostly in case somebody in the raid needs to leave, but then they'll just AFK in a city and go play a console game or watch TV or something.

It's also risky to start throwing points or attendance percentages out early in the game, because there will be players who don't level as fast as the first batch of 50s who will end up finally getting to raid level and finding that it takes them a month or more to be eligible for any drops while the more senior raiders are scooping up minor loot upgrades or stuff for their companions (if we allow that.)

My personal preference would be to mix in a light dose of attendance with a heavier dose of "how much of an upgrade is it?" That's what we ended up doing in DCUO, and it worked really well. Just do a quick inspect of the "winner" to ensure they're not trying to cheat the system.

Also, track who gets drops and on what raid/date they got it to help make the decisions. Don't do it with the expectations that everyone gets the exact same number of drops, but rather that nobody is getting way too much or too little loot.

I also hope that we plan to set raid dates and times. Joining a guild where people raid when there's enough people on to do it just leads to people with limited play time never getting to raid and getting bored quickly. It's what ended up making me quit DCUO, when our guild was absorbed into a larger one that did just that. Any time I logged on they were in the middle of a raid or had just finished and were locked out an unwilling to do one "just for me."

If we have a time when we're expected to be on, we'll have a better chance at proving that our limited play time doesn't make us worse raiders than the people with less family or work commitments.

Thanks for listening to me ramble :P

what I do know is that we actually have quite the amount of euro players playing this game ( including me ) and one of the main problems I encountered with guilds was that they usually didn't really care, and only did Raids during US time.

So my question is, if there are going to be raiding times, will there also be specific raiding times for EU players?

It's hard to find a single time that accommodates people when there's an eight hour time difference between Pacifics and Euros.

You may find that the Euros will need to coordinate their own raid times with the blessing of the officership, assuming there is no Euro officer of course.

I'm sure something will be managed to get everyone into raids. For example, setting raids at 9PM GMT means people on Eastern time would be playing at 4pm. Not an unrealistic time for some people in school, or people like me who make our own work hours, or work shift hours.

It's not always just about where the player lives, but what times they are available to play.

I should be available to help any EU raids if they are lacking people. As Branaddar said, having the ability to make our work schedule is a bonus, which would give me some mornings (my time) when they are raiding to help.

I'm sure it will work out fine in the beginning, when everyone will be quitting jobs and dropping out of school to play. :P

Just saying, I live on the west coast. And my current raiding officer can't lead the raids till I get home from school and he has college to deal with. So we are moving the raiding time to around 7:30 EST
