Ok guys here's the deal, my cousin asks me for help on getting a new computer that he can edit tons of music and videos and of course play games. Budget is between 1000-1500. Now he knows nothing about computers and lives in another state so I cannot build it for him. So he would like it built with a warranty in case things mess up he can replace or whatever. I was going to recommend gateways FX series which is only 1000. I hate Dell,but I guess if its better. Also was thinking of just sending him to Ibuypower. However I would like to get you guys input before I recomend anything and I'm sorry I had to post this but I don't wanna waste his money on junk. Any help is appreciated thank you.

Out of all those options, Ibuypower is what I would recommend too. You still pay more than building it yourself, but you get quality stuff at a decent price.

I had a Gateway FX500 for the longest time as my primary PC, and my brother used it as his for a while after, was a nice computer. Had to replace some parts along the way, but its what you expect from a 6-7 year old computer. Some of the new ones look pretty nice, but I would have to say Ibuypower will give him more variety than any of the other companies.

this is the BEST processor price to performance ratio for movies and or making music. so make sure he gets it! if you really care! in fact it beats all the processors out there in all benchmarks for music and movie making

I know you have (probably unfounded) prejudice against dell, but considering the options, I'd say this is about the best you can do for the price:

-i7 2600, good processor for what he wants to do. Damn fast for encoding and stuff like that
-8GB DDR3, enough for whatever editing stuff he does most likely
-Radeon 6750, same as 5750, should be enough to power most games at medium setting on 1080p
Buying pre-built gaming-ready desktops is hard. I was looking arround, and I can't really find anything else worth the money until you get to about 2000$
Obviously there is always the iBuypower/Cyberpower route, but I was unable to configure anything with a better price/performance ratio.
so i guess the 3820, 3930K, and 3960X don't exist any more?
Also on pure price/performance ratio, i'd say the 2500K is a better buy.

First, my absent love for Dell is definately founded. I have had a total of 6 Dell products that completly have failed within the first year all of different uses. 2 laptops, 2 regular everyday towers and 2 gaming rigs all of which needed the warranty to be used and even broke after being fixed serveral times untill warranty ended. However yes I have seen the tower you linked and did consider it, but with the amount of failure I've experienced I cannot recommend without having a bad felling. Same specs but with a brand Ive personaly seen to last a very long time. Thank you to all who posted it was very nice to get some feedback from others point of view. hopefully we'll find one soon then he joins eGO and starts gaming here with us. :thumbup1::thumbup:
