Got infected with Virus while on Edge Gamers website

I don't know what section to post this in so I'm putting it here.
EDIT: Wow, I swear I didn't see the Tech Talk Forum, whoops. :/ So yeah please move this to that forum.

Yeah, I got infected with Win 7 Internet Security 2012 while in the Off-Topic Forum.
That may not sound like a virus but I researched it and it's a parasite masquerading as an anti-spyware program.

Honestly I don't even know how I got it. I was just in the forum and my Internet Explorer crashed and this program pops up.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

I just got done removing this fake Antivirus Program off of my brother's Laptop! What a pain... took me a backup and a clean install of Windows 7 because the registry was so messed up
 
Ive been in the PC tech field for almost 3 years now. This site did not give you a virus, it manifested itself at that moment. You've probably been sitting on it for a while.
 
Yeah I figured that I didn't get it from Edge; I just put it in there if it helped at all to how I got it.
I think I might have clicked on an ad by accident. :/ This virus is a real pain too because it won't let you open up any .exe's. If you try to open a program it will say that that specific program is infected with a trojan.

If you dont already have it, I'd suggest getting MalwareBytes and letting it run the the background when your pc is on. It does a real nice job at blocking and removing potential threats/viruses and hardly uses system resources (least on my PC it doesn't).
 
Yes it was Win 7 Internet Security 2012 and it displayed a number of fake windows alerts. My brother is not a member of this gaming organization though and he does not visit this website. Anyways, heres some steps to remove it from your computer.

(You may want another computer to download files and transfer using a Flash drive or other media. I ran my computer in safe mode using F8 on boot)

--Potentially Helpful Steps--

1. Download this File http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/FixNCR.reg and transfer using a Flash Drive, this will fix the Registry on your infected computer and allow you to run .exe files

2. Now to stop any processes associated with Win 7 Internet Security 2012. Download RKill http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill from the iExplore.exe download link and transfer using a flash drive once again. Run as Administrator it will end malware programs.

3.Finally remove the malicious code. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/malwarebytes-anti-malware (It is Free) and again transfer using a flash drive. Install the program and scan your computer to remove the malware.

Seems to be going fine right now. I terminated the processes using RKill and now I'm running a full system scan using Malwarebytes. Seeing that damn window being terminated by RKill felt so good lol.

also this virus is known to actively block windows update and various AV/Malware scanners and updates. i dealt with this on a neighbors computer... its a pain in the arse
