An expensive laptop that can be an even sicker desktop... Please, do the research on how much of a boss desktop you could make with that money...

I don't think anyone doubts that you could make a bosslike desktop rig with the same amount of cash; the problem is that desktops aren't really doable if you're seeking a portable gaming machine, where your only real option is a laptop. I'm not a huge Alienware fan either (I never was, even before they became Dell proprietary; they were massively expensive), but they DO make some pretty sweet laptops with excellent battery life and great specifications.

No matter how you cut it, if you want a cutting edge laptop for gaming, then you'll be shelling out the big bucks anyway.

I will say though, there are other options available if you're looking for a good gaming laptop, but IMHO Alienware isn't the worst place you can take your money for portable gaming. As far as I've ever seen, they put some pretty solid components into their laptops -- though I would stray from their desktops unless you really want a shiny alien logo on your tower, I guess...

Gaming isn't meant to be on a laptop, imo... Even with issues like "ohh cant carry it all", if you want a hardcore gaming lappy, it's prolly gonna weight more than the average laptop anyway. Keep in mind you can build your own laptop, too. Though, I don't know how comparable it would be to purchasing name brand outright.

Gaming isn't meant to be on a laptop, imo... Even with issues like "ohh cant carry it all", if you want a hardcore gaming lappy, it's prolly gonna weight more than the average laptop anyway. Keep in mind you can build your own laptop, too. Though, I don't know how comparable it would be to purchasing name brand outright.

Gaming means alot of things. Weather you play on a laptop, console, desktop it doesnt matter. You are still a gamer. There are plenty of people in eGO who game with a laptop. ASUS makes amazing gaming laptops. and yes. they might be a bit heavier then the rest but what he was saying is would you wanna carry ur desktop around (30+ pounds) and have to pluck it into a wall socket everytime you use it AND carry around a monitor. OR do you wanna carry all that in a compact space that weighs about 10 pounds. MAX. Thats what he is getting at.

Exactly. Im not fighting about it but it just seems we need to all just bicker at something and about something It is personal preference. It doesnt matter if he got alienware or mac or ibuypower. It doesnt matter. Congratulate he got it. And dont trash the company that made his computer.

The specs of the OPs laptop would disagree with whether you can game on a laptop. Those specs put most desktops of eGO users to shame. That thing is a beast.

Comparing laptops and desktops is laughable. Even if it will be heavier than a normal laptop, it is still a laptop that is 1000% more portable than a desktop. If you want more portability you can go for a regular laptop, then a netbook, then a tablet, then a phone. They serve different purposes though sometimes they can serve the same one with other benefits as well.

Ibuypower is your idea of building a laptop? You are simply customizing the specifications there just like you can with an alienware laptop. You did not even try to configure it to similar specs to see how price differs? Way to make your point or are you still "just being a smart-alec"?

You yourself just admitted that you don't know how much it could cost compared to Alienware, though.

All I'm getting out of this seems to be, "Don't buy Alienware because it's Dell", and "You can't game on this laptop"

All in all I would much rather buy a gaming laptop than lug around sixty pounds of desktop + peripherals + cables.

I just posted that link for anyone to use for a reference, no need to nerd rage about it. If someone knows a better place to build a laptop, good for them. Instead of being a toolbag and bashing everything I have to say, try being helpful and enlighten the rest of us with your ideas of building laptops.

And I say laptops aren't meant for gaming for a reason. Many laptops cannot be upgraded after they are purchased because many components have to be soldered to fit in a smaller space. And the ones that are upgradeable can only seem to go so far. I currently game on a laptop and wished I had spent it the money on a desktop. Yeah, it's nice to take it around and game with buddies, but I do the majority of my gaming at home. So, looking back, I should have built a pc but the idea sounded good at the time.

Alienware laptops are pretty high up there.

prove to me that they aren't. Most models since the dell takeover have had more than adequate cooling, excellent battery life for their class, schmexy Al/Mg frames (way better designed than anything Compal/Clevo have ever produced), epic screens (RGBLED display = sex). Dell support is pretty great most of the time.



Can't really speak for their desktops, as I've never been there.

My alienware from 2006 still runs.

thats wat we like every 1 have there opinion and prefrences at 1st i was like aaaahhh dell mmmm na... but i put my opinions away i was recommended it by a friend who owns 1 and so i tore up my thinking of "Dell and Alienware" and went out and bought it wil so be happy when i get it.. if i made a mistake :facewall: ... but hey thats life we live life and mistakes happen its only money its not like my life is on the line :lol:

I don't understand what all the arguing is about anyways.

All major brands use mainly generic hardware, unless it's high end (Alienware, except I'm not sure about their MB's). I bought a Gateway FX series in 2008 and it worked great and their support was all I cared about anyways. I've slowly built onto that computer and all I have left from it is a WD 500GB hard drive and a DVD RW drive.

So, all you really should care about in buying a pre built system/laptop is customer service, which Dell is pretty good at. Plus a 17in LED on a laptop? That's pretty awesome.

If I had the money to throw down on a gaming laptop I would get Alienware as well. Sure it's flashy, but that's the reason my case has a window...to show off.
