Minecraft issue

So ever since the last update my minecraft decides to lag after around 10 minutes of me being on the edgegamers server. And then it tells me I have run out of memory. Any ideas?

Specs that are relevant:

8gb ddr3 1600

amd phenom x6 T black edition @3.7GHZ

gtx 460 1gb ddr5

The only thing I ever repeatedly hear is to play on the desktop version rather than on the website.

Do you have java 32 bit or 64 bit
?

That was my problem, I installed 64bit and it's fixed. Thanks!
