Steam game download help

My brother is trying to install Total War II Medieval but once it starts it stops and gives me this error, "Disk IO failure." Anyone knows what this means and how to fix it?

Specs.

CPU: AMD Sempron 3400 1.8GHz
Video card : Geforce 8500 GT
Ram: 3Gb
