Safe Temperatures

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 448 Cores 1.25GB Video Card
Case: NZXT Phantom (Black) ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Antec 650W ATX12V Power Supply


Here is my setup. No oc'ing as of yet. Just curious about what kind of temps are safe to be in. I use a program that came with the motherboard that monitors the cpu temp, but nothing else. (Looking for a good all around temperature monitoring program)

Was playing saints row 3 all night, and the cpu temp was around 45-55 Celsius. Wondering if that is normal, or a bad thing. Ive had mixed answers about temps being above 60 is bad, to being up to 100 is good.

Just curious about what i should be lookin for
 
I think max for the i5 is around 75. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's in the low to mid 70s. Are you using a stock cooler?
 
yea, using a stock cooler for now. thinking of getting a cooler master cooler in the near future.
 
I use the V8 and it's fantastic. Keeps my AMD running cool, idle @ mid 20s and full load @ 35-40.
 
55 is not high. You also didn't post your cooler. If you are using the stock Intel cooler, shoot yourself in the foot now, limp to your computer, pull up Newegg and order ANY standard cooler as it will be light years better.

If you are already using a "real" cooler . . . no worries. Check the fan speeds. Sometimes re-seating the cooler is also a good idea. Take off the cooler, carefully remove all the old cooling compound, re-apply it or buy a some new stuff (Arctic cooling, etc.), and put it back together. Cleaning the fans and all the important bits of your computer should be done on a fairly regular basis, which improves cooling.

Not sure how old your rig is either. People have to remember it takes a little time to break in a good CPU cooler. I have a Noctua NH-D14 (massive mofo) and when I built the rig in August it was idling at 36. 1 month later idling at 32. Now, idling at 30.
 
The i5-2500k will begin to throttle itself back at 95C to prevent damage. Below that, it is a personal opinion on where you would be comfortable running your chip 24/7, though nobody's reported any degradation on SB that I know of. 85, 80, and 75C are all popular choices.

And never compare temperatures from AMD to Intel. That's just foolish.

Agreed. AMD can normally only get up to 70c before causing major problems. That said, they still run very cool. Idle in the high teens and mid 30s load.

Plus, with AMD the actual cores are always the same temperature regardless of each load. Intel has individual temps for each.
 
alright cool. rig is only a month old, with the video card as a christmas present. i am planning on getting a cpu cooler, and more fans for my case. already have 4 fans, more couldnt hurt.

for the SB 95ish is the max , and 72*c is the highest b4 it "can" start causing problems..just to let you know
 
with 2500K, you are fine realistically into the 90c range, past 92ish is when i would begin to worry.

Normally though, around 75, under 80 is preferred.

At stock though, your temps seem good.
 
cool cool, went ahead and ordered the cooler, should be here in 2-3 days. at least im putting my full tower to somewhat use.
