Sexy Beast's Top 20 Albums of 2011

2: Andrew Jackson Jihad - Knife Man

Genre According to Wikipedia: Folk punk

Why is this on the list?: Yeah yeah yeah, it pretentious hipster bull crap..but it's addictive pretentious hipster bull crap. I started listening to AJJ some time this year and since then it's rocketed near the top of my Last.fm Library, which tallies the number of times you listen to a specific band. Knife Man is their best album since the manically brilliant People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World. With songs comically discussing dealing with the homeless and why it's so great being a "straight white male in America"...which is of course entitled American Tune. AJJ is always fun...sure it might not be for all tastes, but it's one of my favorite albums of the years.

1: PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

let_england_shake.jpg

Genre According to Wikipedia: Alternative rock, experimental, and folk

Why is this on the list?: This album came out all the way back in February I pretty much knew that it would be at the top of this list. It's a brilliant love letter to England...though a love letter that centers around England's violent and troubled past and how its place has changed in the world. The album's tone reminds me of The Clash's song London Calling in its simultaneous condemnation of England and it's feint sense of longing. This is easily the most accomplished and well written album that Harvey has put out in a long time and easily the best of the year.

Cheers, I'll definitely check these out. Been meaning to expand my 5 song collection.

These past few years have been terrible for non alt/indie rock. I'm just waiting for the new QotSA album.

Homme has been busy with either Them Crooked Vultures, producing Arctic Monkey albums, and writing theme songs.

Should change the thread title to "20 Albums no one but Sexy Beast has heard of".

Sexy, I appreciate your wide variety of music here. Instead of all the Top 40 crap out now.

+100 to your rep good sir.

Should change the thread title to "20 Albums no one but Sexy Beast has heard of".

And looky what we have here, one of those Top 40 fans I was talking about..........................:P

He listed all the genres broham.

theres gonna be a new one? I remember hearing like, 3 years ago that he was gonna work on it after Them Crooked Vultures but thats it. Idk if he was talkin bout the Rated R Re-Release though.

Yeah. I know about Queens of the Stone Age, getmad.

Finally, someone who appreciate Section.80 as much as I do. It's definitely rap album of the year for me. I've been listening to Kendrick since back when he was K.Dot.

What was your favorite song off of Section.80, Sexy Beast?

Well go figure with the title of the thread. Still gotta agree w/ ya on this tho. I mean this year I def expandin my listenin ears to see what all came out. Def got more into dubstep this year, but thats it. Never been big into exp rock or ne of that other stuff (2 soft imho). I love energy in music (its what drives a party/dancefloor).

A.D.H.D is pretty awesome. Thought I also liked Ronald Reagan Era. Still it's an all around great album.

My daughter and I call her "Forehead", It's so long!!! lol

Rofl, so true.

But for this post: I can honestly say I was not impressed by any of these artists. I realize that these are only 2011 albums but there are so many artists that do what these 20 do and more. My favorite album of your top 20 list is Section.80 but still, there are tons of better rappers. Just my opinion. Although I will give you that I think the singer of Lights is hot. Lol.
