Well, the solstice is behind us and, for most of us, each day will have a wee bit more daylight than the last. With fresh new calendars hanging on our walls, it is a time to look forward to new beginnings. A time for fresh attitudes, to tackling old problems with a fresh new resolve, and to writing the wrong year on our dates. Fear not, we will adapt. As you look ahead to the new year, please take a moment to read about your favorite divisions in eGO. Thank you.

Casino

By Dayman

Many people do not know this about eGO, but we have our very own casino. Now, it may not bring in the millions and millions of dollars normal casinos bring in every month, but it does pretty well.

Our casino runs on virtual "casino cash" and most of the time you get it for free. However, you can really bolster your bank by playing and betting big in the casino. We have all of the popular games you would normally expect. You can play poker, blackjack, roulette, and of course the slot machines.

After feeling really lucky I decided to try my hand at roulette. It sounds easy enough, pick a number and pray the marble lands on it. Well, at 2,000 cash in the hole I decided it might be best to try the slots. After a few rounds of food slots I had to give up. Not only was I down 500 cash but all the fruit spinning around was making my stomach rumble.

After my time spent in the casino I learned some very important life lessons. The first lesson is that I should never gamble. Secondly, playing poker at eGO is really fun. The only down side is having everyone taunt you when you lose 14 hands in a row. But the most valuable prize in our casino is the ability to play poker with your friends here at eGO. What better place to have your friends rob you blind?

Personnel Service Center

By Dayman

The Personnel Service Center would like to congratulate everyone who recruited during last year and also thank everyone who helped with orientation meetings for new members.

This month the PSC will hold an orientation meeting for newly recruited members looking to join eGO on January 21st at 9PM EST. While most orientations are simplistic and straightforward; eGO orientations are informative and invigorating. These orientations focus on informing new members on what eGO expects and also the orientation is a way to break the ice. It allows new members to get to know one another and to feel like they are a part of the eGO Community.

Recruitment started off strong and there are a lot of new members being recruited. Recruiting numbers for 2011 improved over the last year.
For 2012, the personnel service expect to see even higher numbers in recruitment than in 2011.

This year is very important for our Battlefield Division at eGO. We are looking to continue recruiting and keep our servers populated. The servers are full for the most part, but sometimes need a little help in the morning hours.

In 2012 we hope to have the server listing set in stone and have stable map play. This will create a more predictable setting for pubs and assist in recruiting. Although recruitment for the first few months was good, the division would like to see the rise in new members continue.

Last month we discussed the beginning of the Alienware tournament for Battlefield 3. The preliminary tournament ends on January 25, 2012 and after that date, the top 32 teams of the previous tournament will get an invite to the invitational tournament. This tournament has a pay out of $2,000, not to mention bragging rights. Currently, eGO is in 10th place and hopes to finish strong.

Call of Duty had a recruiting drive for the month of December. The member with the most recruits will be awarded a free game; a copy of Skyrim or Modern Warfare 3 is up for grabs. Who will it be? The winner will be announced in division discussion shortly.

Recently DragonD was promoted to advisor. He won COD Divisional Member of the Year in 2010. DragonD has been with COD for almost 3 years. In RL he works in the technology field and has taught Martial Arts. Impressively, DragonD has been gaming for over 15 years. Don't forget to write on his wall to congratulate him.

Counter Strike

An interview with Counter Strike's JavaBasher and The Judge

What is your favorite class/gun and why?

JavaBasher: M4A1. I just seem to actually hit things with it.
The Judge: CT (GSG9 - I like the yellow visor) - deagle/p90 - The p90 is just a good spray gun and the deagle is great for 1 shot kills. T - (any) - deagle/p90

Do you prefer Counter Terrorist (CT) or Terrorist (T) and why?

JavaBasher: CT, because their uniforms look better to me, than the T sides.
The Judge: Depends on the map. I prefer T on dust and office and CT on Italy

Whats your favorite server and why?

JavaBasher: JailBreak, because I find it to be a lot more fun than our regular servers and what we can do in them... Minigames, Disco/Rave, and other sorts of challenges.

Do you remember why you joined eGO?

JavaBasher: Maturity and respect for the game/players.
The Judge: I joined for the great people and packed servers. The forums were also a large part of why I joined. With as many active members as we have, the forums are almost always a busy source of new information.

Is there anything more general about the CSS division that you could tell me? New leadership? Promotions?

JavaBasher: Recently Mikkel, Meades, and I were promoted to Advisor (Meades is now a PSC Advisor but wa,s or is a part of the CS:S Division)

Special thanks to The Judge and JavaBasher for helping to inform our readers.

Day of Defeat

C-WHiT is a very good match. At least that's what everyone tells me when I ask why he was recently promoted to Council for the Day of Defeat division. Also, he has never "kicked all guests" in Ventrilo. On a serious note, C-Whit was a Division Leader for four months before he was asked to step into the Council role, and to get to know our newest Council member a little better, he answered a few somewhat random questions I threw at him.

We now know:

  • C-WHiT enjoys the Anzio server the most because of the newly added Friendly Fire.
  • He likes to play Allies support the most.
  • His favorite event is Realism.
  • His favorite desert is pie (kiwi-lime).
  • When not playing DoD, he likes to play Counter-Strike:Source on the Highschool server.

Eve

By: Muffinz

EVE has had another outstanding month with eGO. The division has been growing in numbers and has been getting many new members from in and outside of eGO.

If you have not tried EVE yet, you should take advantage of a 21 day free pass available from a member of EVE leadership. EVE is a very addicting game that is open to personal game styles. Recently there was a new expansion which added some new tier 3 Battle Cruisers, enhancing the game play a lot. eGO's EVE division intends to live stream some of their ops so that other members can watch the game play.

Getting promoted within EVE is quite different than in other divisions, however, if you are helpful within the community and friendly to other players you'll surely be recognized.

The division has a weekly event that all are invited to attend. EVE is a very fun game that everyone in eGO should at least try once, and when you do, you'll be hooked!

Operation: X

picture.php

By Martyr

Operation: X saw a lot of activity last month. From new games to new leadership, it would be easier to write about what hasn't happened in the OP:X division. However, for the sake of brevity, I will summarize what I know has happened and what is to come.

After the introduction of ARMA II to the OP:X Division in November, the game has been gaining a lot of support among the members of eGO. After a successful first season, be on the lookout for season 2 during the month of January.

In preparation for Season 2, the Op:X Division has scheduled training events every Saturday at 2:00 pm EST, and every Tuesday at 9 P.M. There will also be more events scheduled to work on things such as squad play, flying, sniping, reconnaissance, etc. Be sure to check out ARMA II with eGO.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has also seen a successful launch. With over 80 people playing between the Empire and the Republic guilds, the game has an amazing amount of support in eGO. No events have been scheduled yet, but keep your eyes peeled for an announcement. As more players reach max level, endgame activities will definitely start to pick up.

Red Orchestra 2 needs more love. With very little activity on the servers, leadership is looking for new ways to promote the game to the eGO community. They are looking into various modifications and game modes for our servers to help pick up activity. The RO2 servers will be around at least through January.

Sadly, all Insurgency servers have been closed. The activity on them slowly died to a point where it was no longer wise to keep the servers running. OP:X would like to thank all the admins and members who played Insurgency for their dedication to the game, and to eGO.

A certain fella moved divisions to be an Advisor in the OP:X division. His name is Slazenger, and apparently he plays ARMA II. Whoever this guy is, please let him know that he is welcome in the OP:X Division, even if he is a no name (Just kidding, of course we all know and love Slaz!).

Strategy

By Commando Vlaskiyov

Strategy Division is cooling down after a very exciting and busy month in December. In comparison January is a rather relaxed month, but none the less, there are still events upcoming.

On the Alliance side of World of Warcraft, there will be some guild RBG’s starting with 5’s teams.

Regarding League of Legends, the three weekly events are still in full stride and the competitive team is entering weekend tournaments and doing a smashing job of it. There are plans to host another tournament in February, so keep your sights locked on the forums for any upcoming announcements.

For Minecraft, BG was excited to announce that an official building team is being discussed. If all goes well, big projects will be designed. They are also in the process of creating a L4D2 event for the server, incorporating mobs to replicate the regular zombies and the special ones. If you have any event ideas for Minecraft, please contact BG or Daddyo via PM on the forums. As a last note, let it be known that a brand new plug-in allows you to earn in-game currency for simply being on the server, and continue to earn it over time whilst on the server.

Team Fortress 2

An interview with Team Fortress 2 leaders Crazywolf and vudu

Crazywolf, do you remember why you joined eGO?

I had been playing Team Fortress Classic since it had first come out. In TFC, I was in a small organization which had one server and a great bunch of members. At the time I purchased TF2, the owner of the group wasn't ready to venture into running a TF2 server yet. So I found myself just playing random servers trying to find a fun bunch of people like I had been playing TFC with. One of my friends stumbled onto the eGO 2Fort server, and sent me an invite to join. We had a great time, started making friends right away, so I added the server to my favorites. After playing the server a few times, I decided to visit the website and learn a bit more about eGO. I was impressed with what I saw, seemed like a great bunch of people, so I created a forum account and applied for membership. Since then, I have only played on eGO servers and have enjoyed every minute of it. Our members are what make eGO the great gaming organization that it is.

vudu, why did you join eGO?

I joined eGO because at the time I lived in Seattle and had FiOS. The Turbine server was also in Seattle. I had 7 ping. It was amazing. Now I have terrible DSL.

To both of you, what’s your favorite server and why?

Crazywolf: My favorite server has always been 2Fort. It was my favorite map in TFC, so naturally it’s become my favorite in TF2 as well.
vudu: Favorite server is 2Fort. I like to run in and destroy all the engie stuff as spy. It's really hard when there are like 5 of them.

Is there anything more general about the TF2 division that you could tell me? New leadership? Promotions?

vudu: spidEY was promoted to Technical Advisor so he's taking a bit of a step back from TF2 (he'll still be monitoring the servers status and what not). I will be taking the reins of Admin Training.
CrazyWolf: It was announced Christmas day, Mobilize has been promoted to the rank of Advisor.

Thank you both for your time.
