Servers are down right now, but when they come up we should all play. Especially later tonight when I get home haha.

Patch Notes for January 06, 2012
Tribes Closed Beta Version 0.1.669.0
Server downtime: The Tribes Servers are expected to be down for several hours on FRIDAY, JANUARY 6, 2012 while the patch is deployed. Watch the Server Status on the game loader for latest availability information.

Major Highlights
An early version of the Arx Novena Capture the Flag map has been released. This map is in an early state and is not at its final intended art or design quality.
Added a new ?Target Practice? mode under the Training menu. This is a variant of the Crossfire map that contains a variety of bots in it. These can be used to practice shooting.
Improved vehicle handling in high-latency situations. This is most noticeable on the Shrike.
Reduced stuttering when skiing/jetting.
By default, damage numbers appear above a players hit when you damage them. This can be turned off through the Settings menu.
The game warm-up period has been extended, in order to allow more users to load into the game prior to match start.
Adjusted flag bounce physics to help prevent punting a flag too far from a large impulse.
Balance Items
Lowered the damage on the Sentinel's BXT1 Rifle when the rifle is not fully charged (damage is the same as previous at full charge).
Slightly reduced damage on the Ranger?s Thumper D.
Increased damage on the Technician?s TCN4 SMG.
Increased fire rate modestly on the Infiltrator?s Rhino SMG.
Fixed a previous configuration error that was causing the credits earned from the Flag Killer and Flag Return accolades to be more than their intended value.
Additional Items
Some general improvements for performance and stability. Further improvements are planned for future patches.
Fixed issue where a passenger entering a vehicle was not properly getting an indicator that a missile was incoming.
Fixed issue where vehicle drivers and passengers weren?t having the proper animations applied.
Fixed issue with upside-down Beowulf?s being unable to be flipped back over.
Fixed issue with force ejection of Beowulf driver and passenger where they were falling out of the level and dying.
Added bullet impact and flyby sounds for bullet-based projectiles (chaingun, SMGs, ARs, etc).
Added footstep particle systems under players when walking around. This is not visible on yourself when in first-person view.
Fixed gunner caret not showing up when mousing over the Beowulf.
Players are no longer auto-balanced when driving a vehicle.
Fixed switching between first-person and third-person causing loss of audio on some weapons.
Fixed vehicle ammo indicator not showing at times.
Fixed Infiltrator?s SN7 not being able to fire at the maximum rate possible.
Fixed driver and passenger health bars not properly showing on vehicles.
Fixed issue with Doombringer?s Saber Launcher lock-on sound staying on when you have a lock then enter a vehicle.
Fixed response issues with Beowulf turret and gunner positions.
Fixed an issue in which username and password were not being saved properly for some users.
Removed confusing message about entering and exiting a vehicle on vehicle purchase.
All device particle systems now have proper levels of detail. This should help low end systems in high action environments.
Spectator Changes
Increased performance on spectator HUD
Known Issues
The above-head damage indicators may report incorrect damage on shotgun weapons in some conditions. The actual damage amounts applied are correct.

The only thing I dislike about the game is having to purchase vehicles, instead of them being automatically available. Will you make a channel in vent for those of us playing the game, bear?

I'm really hoping there's enough interest in this game that a division is viable. Already old Tribes players are getting back into gaming because of Ascend.

I've always loved Tribes. I downloaded this today, but the server was down so i'll have to play it after work.

Im getting an error every time i try to just even start the support application. Tells me that HiRezStudiLauncher has stopped working. And it closes right after. :( IDK WHAT TO DO D: or unless it only does that when the update is out

Until I can get a decent mouse that doesn't lag randomly I won't be playing as much.

Downloading now after getting a key from Facebook. The gameplay looks super fast and floatly tho. I don't know if I'm going to be able to hit anything. And the idea of a huge map full of people flying at a million miles an hour doesn't exactly make me ecstatic...

I got three Beta Keys to give out. PM if you guys need one.

You would download the game here.

And activate the beta key here.

The only thing I dislike about the game is having to purchase vehicles, instead of them being automatically available.

This is the thing that makes me cringe so much with this game... Yes I understand we're getting it for free, but to make things like better weapons and vehicles available only through buying them just unbalances everything for those who are purists to the 'free to play' concept or whom don't have the $$$ to throw at it immediately...

Really wish they'd go to something more akin to TF2 where it's mainly cosmetic items that are purchasable. That or make the tokens or whatever you get for playing a full game more plentiful as opposed to the pittance like it was last I heard.

Least we're getting a new Tribes game I suppose. I still have vivid memories of slamming my shrike into a hill at high speed behind the enemy flag stand on the T2 Rollercoaster remake and getting back to my base without touching the ground...

For those who don't know what I mean about the purchase vehicles: You don't have to buy the vehicles with real money, which is what I think you thought I meant Lemming. For you to get vehicles, you need to earn credits in the match which you can then use to buy vehicles. There's different ways to earn credits quickly, but you have to earn them.

The freemium concept affects the game in two INDIRECT ways.
1) It allows you to buy new classes without having to earn XP/credits from playing the game, which can take some time. You can earn the armor yourself (and of course, get skilled at the armor you do have access to already)
2) You can buy boosters which allow you to increase the amount of XP and credits you earn in game from matches. So if you earn 5k XP and 200 credits, a booster doubles it to 10k and 400 credits.

So what am I talking about when I say XP and credits. Experience points are used to level your classes. Think Call of Duty, Battlefield 3, even CS:S. You earn experience points from doing things in game like Killing the Flag Carrier, Defending the flag, Get multiple kills in a row, even having the fastest speed in the match. This you use in the skill tree. Some of the new skills you purchase may be +98 ammo for rifle, +10 energy for jetpack, -15% explosive damange, etc. At the end of the skill tree are perks (think BF and CoD). Sounds confusing, but it isn't once you take a look at the game and read about it.

Now what are the credits. You can get credits two ways: 1) Buying them (that's the freemium concept coming into play). 2) You can earn credits from matches. You earn XP faster more than credits. If anyone has more questions about the game, find me in the Tribes channel.
