Minecraft on Ubuntu

I recently had my Operating System mess up and couldn't reinstall because the CD key for Windows rubbed of the sticker, so i installed Ubuntu to use until i get new desktop sometime this next week. I tried the Linux version of it which wouldn't work and when i try the Windows .exe with WINE it says i need JRE 1.5.0 which i already have. Thanks for any help.

First, to ensure full competency from WINE and your programs, do you have the latest version of WINE?
