Which card is better

560Ti Has the higher clocks. But if you go with a 560Ti i reccomend getting a version with a better cooler on it. Like some of the ASUS 560 Ti's. They have the after market coolers which allow for even faster speeds.
 
Oh ok but the only thing I'm worried about is that people are saying the updates for graphics cards on Nividia are bad and are broken sometimes is this right?

Broken? Most of the updates show great FPS improvements on new games. I've used every new update and haven't had a single problem.

The only one I can think of is a year or two ago when the drivers made the fan speed malfunction, but they warrantied every person that had problems.
 
Oh and will the 560 ti be able to play bf3 and skyrim on ultra with good fps?
 
The 560Ti can play BF3 on ultra depending on your CPU. In the really rough parts of battle it will get around 20 FPS. On normall battles without flashes constantly in your screen causing epileptic seizures then it will be around 40-50 FPS. On STOCK clocks. I suggest you play it at high. But unless your overclocking it then ide probably change from the eVGA to the ASUS one. With the 2 fans. Its the one i got. Direct CUII. Its possible to over clock to a much higher clock and will have no problems on ultra on BF3. :) but i wouldnt over clock with an eVGA card.
 
I dont know if those 6950's can still unlock to a 6970, but in the past, I know they did. So basically for a 6950, you paid less, getting the same performance as a 6970.

I have a 6970, and AMD is a great card. No problems as I have experienced.
 
Gonna sound strange, but I'd wait.

The 7000 series is due very soon (next month?) and you know what that means, price drops. Plus, we don't know what the low end 7000 will be priced at, and if the benchmarks they post are accurate, it might blow both cards you listed out of the water for the same price. Best case scenario, wait for the release and the 6950 could drop by $30, making it a nice starter.

Personally, I like the nVIDIA better. Strong company, decent driver support, and most games seem built more to their liking.

Its dependant on his power supply also. :) But yes. You should have no problem playing BF3 on max settings. I suggest getting this:

Err, faster core clock does not mean faster. 6950 has the edge in performance on the 560 ti as well as having double the vram. Should be useful for upcoming games even at 1080p but especially for 1600p and higher. A slight factory overclock does not mean much as you can do that yourself, though the 6950 he linked to is slightly overclocked as well.

This is the card that has a chance of being unlocked, though it is a gamble if it actually will.
 
The card you suggested was the card I was looking at then I looked at the reviews and they were bad but my question is with a i5 2500k CPU and a 750 watt psu would the first card I recommend from Nividia be able to run bf3 and skyrim on max will 40-80 fps?

They can. If you get the 2GB models, you'll have better functionality and the flashing will be easier, but even a 1GB model will unlock.

I use Tom's Hardware religiously for hardware recommendations. They put out a "Best ______ for the Money" article every month for CPUs and graphics cards. They'll also do it periodically for SSDs and certain motherboard platforms when there's a substantial development in the market.
 
^gotcha. Frost889 also has a point, maybe wait for one more month if you can, Im sure those new cards will be released, and you will have more options.

So wait, and you will not regret anything :P
 
The faster clocks make the difference yes. You can check the performance charts. And just because people get a DOA card doesnt mean the card is BAD. Ive had no problems with mine. Works fine with my 500w PSU. Waiting a month for a card thats probably gonna be 3 times the price of the 560Ti is pointless. the 560Ti can run skyrim on max settings with no lag. Even in the heavy parts. But in BF3 you might want to over clock it a bit before you go into multiplayer with the 560Ti.
 
The fact that a 6950 is clocked at 800 MHz and a 560 Ti is at 822 MHz (both reference speeds), does not mean by default the 560 Ti is faster. On average, the 6950 is actually the faster card by a small margin. Obviously, overclocking both respective cards which means increasing the core and memory clocks will increase the performance of both cards. But again, just because one is clocked higher does not mean it is faster. A reference gtx 580 is at 772 yet it is the fastest single core card at the moment. Likewise when comparing amd and intel. Comparing a four core bulldozer and sandy bridge with the sandy at a slightly lower clock speed, it will still destroy bulldozer.
 
if they were the same price, the 6950

since they are like $20 different, i'd say take your pick. The 6950 is probably a bit more future proof since it has a 2GB frame buffer, and with games like BF3, you can already push over 1GB at 1080p

also, none of the 6950s on the market will unlock. Feel free to not believe me, but you will when your's doesn't
 
Yeah I know I've done extensive research on it and is getting a 2gb graphics card really worth it? Would it make my performance better

for anything above 1080p, then yes it will give u better a higher fps rate
