Hey guys,

I have an alienware m17x (first generation, 2009?). The thing has been fine until I got bf3 and needed to update my nvidia drivers. The 285.62 update couldn't detect my sli dual gtx560m's, and refused to update. I went on a few websites that looked a little sketchy but had .inf's that I could use. Well, the drivers installed fine, but now I get the weirdest freeze/flashing screen crashes sometimes. I'm not sure what's going on or what to do, where should I start?

Thanks for your time,
Irwin

rollback to the last certified drivers that worked for u, that's where i would start off

Thanks bravo, I did a system restore back to the good ol' 17*.** drivers, i was starting to get some pretty crazy heat problems too. In the meantime, ordered a micro screwdriver set and some thermal paste, I think it's about time I have that a looksee...

Usually laptops require different drivers than their desktop counterparts take. Try doing a system update and see if the right drivers are installed via that update. I know with my laptop, all my drivers, gfx and sound, come from an HP update, not a direct driver download.

forgot about that. Wasn't thinking about mobile gfx cards i was pretty much thinking about desktop gfx cards.

for nvidias the drivers are like the same....its almost like their universal.

Mine are also the new 285.62 but i haven't been able to try BF3 or any game yet because need to digitally download everything.

Btw, are you sure you have SLI GTX560m? i think you mean 260m cuz the first generation doesn't support anything more than the 280m or 4870's.
