Other. Most (if not all) of my brothers had Steam because they played CS:S and who knows what else. I used to play CS:S on my brothers' accounts until I finally got my own.
 
I was doing a project at my friends house when I was younger and he had counter strike playing... and well yeah :D

In my collegiate high school, I had to take an elective for May term. I picked Gaming, and each student was given a school-owned Steam account to use for the class. It's thanks to that class that I was introduced to Steam and Valve games.

I actually had steam before the gaming class. I somehow stumbled upon videos of portal on youtube and went and bought the game and got a steam account.
 
My friend told me to get this game called Counter-Strike 1.6 so we can play online together. After I bought it and it said it requires Steam to play. :)
 
I got into steam because valve was giving away a free copy of portal for anyone who would claim it and download it.
 
Heard of CS 1.6. Was going to buy the disk and play non-steam. But I heard of steam and bought off there.
 
I got a code for a free copy of Portal on Steam from completing a digital photography class.
