They all agree that Guild Wars 2 is the most anticipated game of the year, if not, the most anticipated MMO. From everything I've heard about the game, I just can't wait any longer. It's been a month since beta testing began, and yet the game is completely in the dark and underground. This doesn't surprise me though. It will get a lot of hype when it comes out. However, there is one thing in the back of my mind that is haunting me. Does everyone know how much guild wars cost when it first came out? $20.... HAHA yeah right. $60.... HAHA yeah right. $70? Well, I don't remember, but it was either that or more. This is part of the reason why guild wars didn't hit it off big, and we all know it became very recognized over time(as the price went down). If ArenaNET really wants this game to hit off big and blow peoples minds, they shouldn't price the game that high again. $60 is perfectly fine with me. Whatever it is though, I'll be getting it the day it comes out.

wasn't it 50$?

Between $50-60, yeah. So I don't know understand the post by killerkills since it did come out at $60 at the most. I remember this because EQ2, GW, and WoW all came out at about the same price for PC games. What became a problem for new GW players later on was the "expansion" model ArenaNet used, releasing them as "campaigns." Over time, players were able to adjust, but one of the things to bear in mind was until 2007, WoW was still the one and same game as it was released. GW already had 3 campaigns released in addition to the original game.

And the reason why the original game didn't become a hit off the bat was that there was three major MMOs released at the same time; World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and Guild Wars. Bear in mind, Everquest 2 already had a large, dedicated player base. World of Warcraft had attracted a lot of attention through its Warcraft series and PR. Guild Wars was a new player to the scene and its major PR was centered about the No Subscription Fees model and Maximum Character Level is 20.

In the end, I expect the game to come out at $60 with a collectors edition at $80-90, especially if they include micro-transactions in the game.

It was $70 the first month it came out. Then they lowered it to 60. One of the reasons why I waited. I swear i remembered the price 69.99

They have already stated that there would be micro-transactions in the game, but they would not affect a players experience while in game. What they mean by that is, by following the same PR model as Guild Wars they are able to offer people cool things that will enhance the playing experience through cool skins ,costumes, Bonus Mission Packs that give back stories on important characters in the game, extra character slots, make-over packages, PvP skill unlock packs, PvP weapon unlock packs, "bonus" weapons (like the ones that players can earn in Hall of Monuments), etc. None of these things, however, will have any effect on your ability to play the game, such as those in games like APB, Global Agenda, and other F2P models of that sort. The extra content will be purely aesthetic in nature, making your Guild Wars 2 experience your own, and not forcing you to purchase things to become a better player or to complete the game.

How many character slots are there to start with?

If it is the same as Guild Wars, there will be a number of slots to start with, enough for you to make all but two professions. But again, if they follow the same model you can purchase more slots, and make multiple characters of the same profession, different race, etc. I can see them giving us more than what was given to us in the original.

They've gave a small update on areanet:

We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we?re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we?ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we?ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.
