Thoughts on the Pomson?

I was wondering what you guys thought about the Pomson 6000 (the new engineer shotgun). For those of you who don't know it is an energy weapon similar to the cow-mangler and the righteous bison. It's effects include:
  • Infinite ammo
  • Removes 20% of spy's cloak on hit
  • Removes 10% of medic's ubercharge
  • Penetrates enemy players
  • Cannot be reflected by pyros
Debuffs:
  • 80% less damage to engineer buildings
  • Less projectiles per clip
  • Projectiles can be seen and hence can be dodged
  • Projectiles move slow compared to bullet
  • Far less damage at point blank range
Personally I find it to be overpowered with 10% uber removal really being overpowered, I mean it can completely deny an enemy push while spamming with its infinite ammo. Also, penetrating player and not being able to be pushed away makes it pretty much impossible to avoid if you don't see it early enough. Just my $0.02.

Here is a video that pretty much sums up my feeling about it all around:

So should the Pomson be nerfed? What about the other new weapons?

EDIT: One way I think it could be easily balanced is making it only drain uber when all 3 parts of the projectile hit target.

Obviously it should be nerfed engie's are not mean to be offensive they are meant to stay back and seeing someone be ubered as an engineer is really awful in my opinion. I think the sentry needs to be buffed so people don't use this.

I think they just need to lower the amount of ubercharge that the pomson takes

It can't be too overpowered, because I rarely see it being used, and I'm sure plenty of people have it by now.

Its not over powered, NONE of the new weapons are over powered, ESPECIALLY NOT THE SPYCICLE, now move along.

I used the pomsom for about a week and I did not like it at all, ill stick to my shotgun tyvm

The Soda Popper, the Enforcer, the Splendid Screen, the Phlogistinator...add the Pomson to the list of crutch items: weapons to make accessible a class for people that aren't that good with that particular class.

This is true.

Everything new to come out since the WAR update, and possibly the DR from the Sniper/Spy update, has been overpowered. Well everything that was featured in a major update anyway. This new holiday one seems to be a little more so though. Its ok though because it will be fixed, in the sense that soon new items will come out that will be more overpowered to drown them out. Remember how annoying Natascha and the F-A-N were? Now we have the Tomislav and Soda Popper.

Starz doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, fact. According to him Pomson, spycicle, philly, and every bloody weapon that can kill is OP. It's all about "being the first guy to review a gun" to him, or so it seems. People still quote his videos to make a point. It's kinda sad because he leaves out lots of info.

here's the downside:
- less projectiles per clip
- far less damage against building
- projectiles can be seen and hence can be dodged
- projectiles move slow compared to bullet
- far less damage at point blank range

I play medic a lot and don't see uber drain as a big deal. As a medic, the enemy engineer will almost never have a clear line of sight on me. I've my teammates to do the killing.

As a spy, I've been killed a few times because I was unable to cloak (got drained). But after a bit, you'll get used to it. If you look at the engie, you can see the projectiles coming and often it's very much possible to dodge them.

And like someone else said, engineer barely use this gun. FJ is so much better. Free crits...u can never top that lol

My opinion.

what you say is absolutely true. this weapon is NOT OP in any sort of way.

in fact, i will say that this is actually a good weapon. it gives you a way to handle spies and handle ubers in bad situations.

however, this weapon is outclassed by 1 thing: teamwork

- A sniper bullet to the head or a knife to the back is a much quicker, and more efficient option than spamming Pomson shots at medics to whittle their ubercharge away. You could've easily said that there was an enemy medic and have a sniper or spy take care of him/her.

- reducing cloak on spies isn't a really an OP buff IMO, but it would be much quicker to have a pyro light a cloaked spy on fire. you can clearly see the spy that way and it greatly lowers the chances that the spy will be able to escape and/or survive.

infinite ammo isn't too much of a big deal considering the type of projectiles that this weapon fires. it just encourages a lot of spam for free kills.

really, the only OP thing on the Pomson IMO is that it can penetrate enemy players. a medic's patient usually takes the shot for him/her, but the penetration just negates this completely.

The uber charge thing makes me rage. I once dropped a 90% charged uber because I had no idea the pomson did that. We rushed in and I was spamming M2 to no avail...

I got pwned when the uber didn't activate.

Thanks for pointing those downsides out, I'll add them to the original post, yeah to be honest I'm quite biased in thinking it is OP.

i love my pomson, its great for combat engi. especially on koth maps

Ever since i got the pomson I've always used, its my charm, and it rocks, so i am going to always use it <3
