STO (Star Trek Online) goes F2P today 11AM EST

What are you waiting for? For anyone that's a trek fan or a closet treky like me this game is the right place to be. The game is going F2P because PERFECT WORLD bought CRYPTIC STUDIOS and PERFECT WORLD is indeed a F2P company (they host rusty hearts, jade dynasty, etc). Star trek online is ridiculously in depth (your own ship, your own fleet, ranks, all the races from the shows, customize all of the crew departments/science/engineering/etc), the SPACE combat can only be compared to that of EVE except not as boring (sorry eve ppl, and yes you can visit the bridge of your ship), there is also ground combat as well which is awesome (has and FPS kind of feel). Well actions speak louder then words in this case youtube vids. So here you go check it out and its definitely worth the try since its F2P now.

P.S. The ground combat has changed plenty since P2P, in the F2P version its not point and click its actually real time FPS style

Bought it for $5, still haven't played it. It might be awhile before I get around to it, small hard drive is small ;_;

I've had free to play early access. But I didn't use it.

By the way the game is very fun.
 
Played it for a bit a while back, the game is fun. I repeat, the game is fun.
 
Man the only reason I stopped playing yesterday was cause of the gf, but the game is seriously underrated it is very fun. We should start up an IGN thread or something lol
 
Hey, yes welcome to the game. We had a small group of like-minded eGO players that played the game at launch, a few still are active. Feel free to enlist here!

I got back into it 10 days ago (retired captains got early F2P access) and the game is still plenty fun. You mentioned ground combat, and I just want to say it actually doesn't feel any different than it did when I played around launch.

The ground combat is good enough, the space combat is excellent and this is a great game for any Trekkie.

If I hadn't bought Star Wars: The Old Republic, THIS is the game I would be playing.

Just started this game yesterday. As a huge TNG nerd, I'd say this game is pretty fun, especially the space combat. Definitely underrated, I guess people are more interested in shiny lightsabers.

I love Lightsabers. I also love Space battles with Star Trek class ships.

Pretty fun, actually :D. I wouldn't call me a ST fan in general, but the overall gameplay (more space combat) has been a lot of fun so far; now to either get xo to play or find some of you guys playing :P
 
Its a fun game if you need help let 1 of us strat leadership know or Ravage we are all currently Vice Admirals the highest in the game and we can come help and teach you more about the game, also we have a eGO guild ingame just ask us and we can send you a invite to join it to find us on and ask for help that way.

Would have bought this when it came out if it hadn't had a subscription. . .

But now that it's F2P, I'm all in!

Unfortunately everyone on campus is watching netflix and slowing down my download. . . . . . . . . . .

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . . . . .

Anyway, if my Windows partition doesn't explode from the extra space needed to store the game, I'm excited to play! Normally I don't ever use my windows partition (Mac ftw), but for this, windows might be worth it.
