So after some research on the internet trying to solve some issues with my PC I came across something called memtest for testing RAM. However, I have to download it and make a CD of it to run it properly. Before I go making a ton of CD's I was hoping someone here might have had experience running memtest and be able to help me decide where to download it from.

These are my computer spec's if it helps:

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz

4 GB of DDR2 RAM (4 1 GB sticks)

Windows 7 32-bit OS

Any advice?

you can use any linux live cd i think all of them have memtest by default, or look for the auto executable software

Download the iso from here.

Open (double click) the zip file to see the iso image inside. Drag the only file that's inside the zip to the desktop (easy and quick way to extract a file from a zip).

Right click the extracted file. The first option is "Burn Disk Image." Select that. Follow the prompts - it's pretty easy. Just use a blank CD.

Restart your PC with the newly created CD in the drive. Make sure that the PC is set to boot from the CD (check BIOS if needed).

Run Memtest for a few hours minimum to check your RAM. I'd let it run either 24 hours or until you see failures.

If you do have any failures hit us up again so we can help troubleshoot.

The memtest didnt show any errors after about 14 hours of running. However my computer did freeze up and force me to manually restart after that. Dunno what that means. Hopefully it was just a freak thing.

I've had similar problems. Try resetting your cmos.

Also, if your running windows 7, try going to the control panel, clicking on administrator tools, choose computer management and view the event viewer.

The viewer will tell you any critical or warning messages your computer might be recording. From there you can hopefully figure out what's causing your computer to crash.

I hope this helps you out.

Peace and happy gaming.

I ran event viewer but I have no idea what it is saying. And it does not provide any solutions when I submit the report in regards to hl2.exe errors. This is one example of it:
Faulting application name: hl2.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ea78f27
Faulting module name: filesystem_steam.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4f28cccc
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x7294f1c9
Faulting process id: 0x149c
Faulting application start time: 0x01cce3ea69897be0
Faulting application path: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\zephyrizer\team fortress 2\hl2.exe
Faulting module path: filesystem_steam.dll
Report Id: a1c07080-4fe8-11e1-9847-00044b04d235

There were no critical messages, just errors and warnings.

The only other thing that is questionable had these solutions provided:
Customers have reported the following scenarios as possible causes for this event:
TCP/IP Offload is enabled for a network adapter.

TCP/IP v6 is enabled and their ISP does not yet support TCP/IP v6.

The spanning tree “portfast" setting is not enabled on your servers switch ports.

And I am pretty sure it does not have to do with IPv6

How are your temperatures?

Motherboard:
CPUTIN ranges from 34-36 degrees centigrade
AUXTIN is 27 degrees centigrade

CPU:
Core 0 ranges from 39-43C
Core 1 ranges from 35-37C
Core 2 ranges from 31-33C
Core 3 ranges from 31-33C

Hard Drive: 33C

GPU: 58-60C

O.K. so far you have two solutions that should help. First of all, the event viewer will not tell you how to fix your problem. Its good you don't have any critical issues. Just warning messages. Now you can google the warning messages and do some research on what the errors are and then ask google how to fix the error. I do that and do get good results.

Secondly, you can go to your Steam Forums and either ask Steam for help which they have helped me out many times or go to the forums and I'm sure many other gamers have experienced the same problems you've experienced and should have a solution. Or just post your problem in the Steam fourm to get feedback from other forum members.

Thats pretty much all I can tell you.

If you haven't done it already, you can go into your steam library, right click on the half-life game your having problems with, choose properties then local files and choose verify game integrity cache and that may correct the error. And on that note, you can also go to your Steam folder, delete the file (Steam.dll & SteamUI.dll) and exit out of Steam. Then reload steam and Steam will update all your files.

I hope I was able to help you out or at least give you some pointers. I'm no expert and I do occassionally run into errors from time to time and I usually go here first for advice and do some google research on my own.

I wish you well and if you fix your problem, please let us know on our forums so we can document it for other future players that may have the same or similar problem.

Peace and be well.
