My fellow North Texas eGO members,

A few of us are planning a meetup at Quakecon 2012. Uma tora and I are tossing around ideas of eGO taking up a table or two in the BYOC area. Basically, meetup, game, go out for dinner(and drinks if you're old enough), come back, rinse and repeat. If we get enough of us in together, we might be able to split the costs of a room or two, or we could get rooms at the hotel that's cheaper. I'm looking for ideas and feedback at this point, as a lot of information is still up in the air. Please feel free to reply to this post, pm me on the forums, or grab me on steam.

Thanks guys!
UPDATE:Dates have been announced for quakecon 2012. August 2-5th, at the anatole!

If enough people go, the cost of rooms at the hotel are cheap. I am staying there regardless. I room with my local group of friends every year. There are a few cheaper hotels near the Anatole however if you don't want to stay there. As well as plenty of places to eat. I usually leave my car at my parents house and split the cost of parking with my friends, since there's really no sense in all of us bringing our cars.
If we want to do an eGO meet up, I probably wont sit them all of them this year. We will see. But yes, meeting up with eGO people, and going out for dinner, drinks, and whatnot is a must. :D

I live in the DFW Area, and I have a few questions about Quakecon.

1) Can you only know a little bit about Quake to attend? If its ALL about quake, no giveaways or anything.

2) is it REQUIRED you go in a hotel? Dallas is only a 45-60 minute drive from me.

Also, if its required, I feel very uncomfortable rooming in with someone I met on the internet.

1) There are more games the quake supported. Basically anything played over LAN. :D They have give aways, and competitions for COD and CS and TF2 usually as well I believe. I know my friends won some pretty sweet prizes from headsets to a custom computer build in the tournaments. There is also a dealer room. Last year they also had hands on demos of RAGE, and the first public demo of Skyrim. There are a lot of panels to attend, as well as workshops. Its pretty much as 24/7 event, with something going on all the time. The dealer room was a bit lacking last year, I was a bit disappointed, but being front for the Skyrim demo made up for that in my eyes. :D

2) The event is held in the hotel, but its not required that you stay there, of course. I live in Plano, and I stay at the hotel for convince sake. I stay with my local friends that I have know for years. I live like 15 minutes from the hotel and I don't want to commute back and forth each day personally, but like I said, I have a group that I stay with. :) Parking is expensive at the Anatole, I think 20 bucks a day. If you leave, you get charged the parking cost, so that is something to factor in.

1) Its's not ALL about quake. there's many other games. Giveaways you ask? How about computers, computer gear, graphics cards, CARS. Yeah, there's giveaways. :D Knowledge isn't a necessity, having fun is.

2)It's not required at all. There are some who leave and come back. It's totally up to you. I didn't sleep at con last year, but it's w/e.

.

Last year they gave out 2 Mustang GTs'.

ok. Thanks for the responses. Also, is there a bus that drops off near there? Or does the TRE drop near Dallas? I would rather pay that fee, then pay 20$. Also, does DART drop off near there?
