I think pool play is the way to go if you're looking for a serious tournament. This hypothetically prevents the two best teams from playing each other in round 1 and knocking a deserving finalist out.
Edit: I suppose the condition here is if you want it to last for a few weeks vs one weekend or day.

That said I'd be down with a ARAM for-funsies kind of tourney too.

If this tournament is for prizes and all, I don't think ARAM is a good idea since well.. its random picks. You practically playing a 4v5 if you random eve

ARAM would be nice for a fun kind of tournament.
