Windows 8 UI is dropping the ?Start? button

So innovative. Removing key features >.<

I'll stick with Windows 7 for at least another 4 years.
 
Are they trying to make america's life more EASY? I mean. Arent we all a little lazy as it is? And now we dont even have to take the leasure of putting .0001 pounds of force onto a click button to hit the start menu? :P Another fail - BROUGHT TO YOU BY MICROSOFT!

lol well im serious. They are trying to make us smarter but they are making us lazier at the same time. XD

Apple has been doing that for years. Simplifying everything for the simple minded.
 
Oh no microsoft is making it pop-up just by hovering the cursor over the corner. Honestly is it that much of a big deal?

While the Start button may be gone, the button’s core functionality will be retained using a “hot corner”, according to a report from The Verge. The hot corner, which you activate by either touching or mousing over one of the screen’s four corners, will supposedly activate a start-style menu screen when the operating system is both desktop and Metro UI mode.

This changes almost nothing except you don't see the start button.
 
That's just a rumor. I'm sure that in reality, in order to open the start menu you will be making an obscure gesture using your cursor while you hold down a preset key combination.
 
I tested the beta the other day and have mixed feelings about it. WAY too much like a smart phone with the "apps" and slideable menus...

It is, however, very user friendly. This is clearly targeting the next generation computer user.

I agree. The apps are kinda annoying. I have my PC on a dual boot now (win 7 pro 64bit and win8 64bit). I must say I LOVE the new look of windows 8. I dunno. I wont be using the app system though. That's more for tablets and stuff. Theres room for improvement, but let's be honest, vista was far worse then this ;P
 
Apps? On a desktop? Aren't they called Programs? What is this foul wizardry?! (Already tried Win8, don't like it too much)

Programs, applications, they're pretty much synonymous.
As for this...I want to see how this would work. Though, Windows 8 doesn't look too good anyway...

Yeah I know that. I've been using "Apps" for years, am I cool now?:P
Only thing that interests me is that they are somehow incorporating Xbox Live into Win8. Maybe cross-platform? Possibly kb/m support for new Xbox as well? I doubt it but we shall see what develops
 
I am waiting to upgrade to windows 8 until I see what type of products stardock is gonna come out with. Skinnable start screen. They already have an app out that brings back the start menu and start orb called start8.
 
This will probably drive me to be like those guys that still use Windows 95 these days because its the only Windows "cleaned" of IE. (well the original version is) Start Menu is what makes Windows what it is, and while they say that most power users don't use the Start Menu and instead use shortcuts, I know pretty much all the shortcuts but none of them (except Win+D) are as useful as the Start Menu.
 
Everyone has their panties in a bunch...but some of you are failing to understand what's going on here.

Windows 8 is an updated UI that will be familiar to iOS and Android users. It is designed with touchscreen functionality in mind.

There are ways to customize is to resemble Windows 7, in case you don't like the features of the new UI (like the apps, etc).

The "Start" button isn't totally gone. If anyone cared enough to read Death's post - he made it perfectly clear that even with the new UI you will still have the same Start functions...just served up differently.


So before you all start complaining and acting all angry about change - either research it or download the beta version. A company the size of Microsoft isn't going to "do something dumb". (They learned their lesson with ME, bless their hearts).
 
Waiting for Windows 9...

Win ME = bad.
Win XP = good.
Win Vista = bad.
Win 7 = good.
Win 8 = bad.
Win 9 = good.

I think they do it on purpose to get you to buy 2 OS's instead of one @_@...
