I came to eGO DoD:S for the game, and I stay for the people. Many of us feel this way. I have been in this community for over two years now and have enjoyed my time immensely. Good game and great people no other way to describe it.
DoD the game alone doesn?t mean much to me. It?s a game, an old fun game, but in the end just a game. Without this community I would have stopped playing it long ago. The people I have met in this division are another matter. I have met characters here that to be honest I would never associate with in life. Now that isn?t a dig on anyone it?s simply the way it is. I am a 30 year old accountant who spends too much time at work and tends to enjoy the use of firearms, motorcycles, and computers. Any of you under the age of 20, I probably would have never even looked at twice and your parents are probably thankful for that. Those over 50 if you were not a client I would never have known your name. Ohh yea here?s the big one; if you don?t live in Northern California, I wouldn?t have known you either.
This community has allowed us all to meet great people whom we would have never met otherwise. It is for many members a sort of extended family that has provided all of us with frustrating or even maddening moments of pure unadulterated rage (Thanks Fluffy and L4D2), great excitement (successful Realism battles) and hours upon hours of entertainment with great people.
Every online game goes through cycles because we all have lives to attend to. School, work, family, summers, winters, spring break and whatever else causes these games to go through peaks and valleys. Yet after all these years DoD:S in eGO is still going strong. There is no quit in this community or in the people that enjoy a good game and great people.
This division is not in danger of disappearing, but it does need help from time to time from the people that it provides so much entertainment for. DoD:S always has and always will be a part of eGO and online gaming. It has proven that over the last decade.
The form in which it exists in eGO however can always change. So if you enjoy having the servers we have, and the events we have you need to start asking yourself, what have I done for DoD:S this week or today. As I said we all have lives to attend to, but every single one of us finds time in those busy schedules to get on and game with people. So if while you are online gaming with the people you enjoy, in the division you call home, and you are not asking yourself that question, you need to start. Some days we can do or are willing to do more than others and that?s ok. We make up for it by lighting a fire under ourselves and others so that during those slow days we stay motivated or someone else does. There is no gauge, no measurement for who has done what or what would be best to help with, simply the knowledge that you helped, that you did something and that your friends in this division will be better off for it. What have you done today for this community and these people that have done so much for you?
The first question and the last question I ask myself every time I get on the forums, on Ventrilo or in game is this. What have you done today to keep this division alive and strong? When you see me doing more than I did the day before, when I am pestering the crap out of leadership or just in general getting on people's nerves, it's because I didn't like how I answered that that question today.
So, what have you done today for your fellow gamers to keep this division strong?
