Gimp | How to tutorial #1 - Avatar
Hello Edgegamers, for all of you who don’t know how to make sprays, or signatures or avatars this is where you can find the information needed. Today I will be teaching how to make a basic avatar like my red “BmXImDead” one in Gimp 2.6. Here is my 8 step process.

Step One:
Create a new 125x125 image create a new layer and delete the background layer.
Step Two:
Add your text with a color you like other than white that doesn’t match your background. Make the text fit the image but not fill it to the corners and center it using the “Alignment Tool”
Step Three
Alpha to Selection” you text and go to “Select” and grow it by “5”
Step Four:
Fill in the layer with a color you like that isn’t the same as your text. Once finished move the layer behind your text and once your happy merge the layers. Then re-align them to center of the image.
Step Five:
Create a new layer and go to “filters” blur and then to Gaussian Blur and blur it by 10.
Step Six:
Finally you select your merged lay and “Alpha to Selection” the layer. Select your rectangular select tool and make sure you have replace the current selection clicked. Create a new layer with your rectangle selected.
Step Seven:
Select the gradient tool and change the gradient “FG to Transparent” with the foreground color white and background color black. Stroke from the top to bottom so that the white is towards the middle to top. Then lower the layer Opacity to a glow like tone.
Step Eight:
Upload your new avatar.
