As of 2-28-2012 (28-2-2012), the open beta for Blacklight: Retribution has been released to the public.
For those of you who have previously played Blacklight: Tango Down, this will be a warm welcome. In continuation of the trend, this game has gone free to play (the first was $15 from release, but could have been 4x that). To me, the first game was geared far too much toward consoles - it was great fun, but support dwindled, and players soon left the game behind for blockbusters such as Battlefield or Call of Duty. Only this past Christmas did I purchase the game from Steam, and all servers were empty, although there was no browser to check (another downside).
While the storyline was nonexistent before, and many features were designed for consoles, with Retribution, Perfect World hopes to appeal to the PC crowd and include a backstory or cancel it out entirely. Be sure to download the open beta and check it out!
