Hello, All!

With the end of my childhood slowly approaching (im only a sophomore, but time to start thinking), I am starting to think about my future. I know that I want to join the US Army, be an MP, and be a State Troop in Pennsylvania after being discharged. However, I am considering starting my military career at West Point (USMA). Im stepping up my game big time. Volunteer work, sports, academics, student government, etc. Do any of you have any suggestions on what else I should be doing to prepare for West Point? Any grads?

Look into a program called SMP. Its what im currently doing. Basically you are in ROTC and in the reserves or nation guard at the same time. This is how it works: you go to basic and ait and get an enlisted mos. Then you go to school and become a cadet in ROTC. Upon all of the ROTC pay and whatnot, you also get gi bill and drill pay. So basically you will be well off money wise while in school.

And what is making you pick West Point? It's an amazing school and all but almost every college/university has a ROTC program. And when you grad you all get the same thing no matter what school you go to: a commission..... Unless you have your heart set on west point, or just like the more Army lifestyle while in college, id recommend a normal school. But if u want to do SMP go talk to the people at the ROTC program BEFORE you enlist.

Happy Hunting ;)

pm me if you need any more advice from someone who is doing this ;)

Wow, thank you for the advice! I chose West Point for a couple of reasons. One of them being that my family has gone there in the past. Second, Im looking for a challenge. Also, if I get in and graduate, I will have the opportunity to get any police job (outside of the military) when I am no longer enlisted.
