What parts are connected by a PSU?

Just wondering. I'm getting beeps from my computer when I turn it on, and I can't see the screen. I'm using Amy iPhone to type this. Anybody know if the cause of the beeps is from my PSU?

Things connected to the PSU should be CPU 8-pin, mobo 24-pin, all graphics cards with 6/8-pin depending on card, and all peripherals like DVD drive, hard drive, and case fans.

A computer beeping during startup is perfectly normal, usually just POSTing and its a good sign in troubleshooting. You're at least getting that far. The motherboard is what makes the beeps.

If you aren't getting anything on the screen, obviously check the screen first, make sure all connections are solid between case and screen. If that's all good check out the power connections to the graphics card and make sure the fan spins up. Gotta find out what part's not working before we can get a solution.

Figured out it has nothing to do with the power supply, but a keyboard error

I get 3 long beeps btw.

I plugged In the keyboard to every USB slot, and still get the 3 long beeps

How did you determine the keyboard error? If you do not plug your keyboard in, does the computer startup just fine?

Yes the machine doesnt exactly need a keyboard in order to boot up, however it is required if your machine requires a password in order to login. I would suggest that you check into your video card (if you have one installed) to make sure that its secure in the slot. Also make sure that the monitor cable in fastened securely in the vga/video card port (depending on whether u have vga/dvi slot). Also check to make sure that some of your memory may have possibly gone faulty. Depending on which OS you have will depend on how many sticks of ram to keep in for the test. Be sure you have at least a minimum of 2gb in order to test.

Btw I looked into the beep codes & if you have an IBM system, then you code info would be correct bout the keyboard error (as odd as that sounds). However, if you dont have an IBM system, then I would suggest checkin the video card & memory.

Try a different keyboard, most computers won't past post if it has a stuck key.

True story: My sister smashed up on keyboard and shorted the membrane inside and I had to cut out the 4/$ button's contacts for it to not be stuck.
