[DoD:S FAQ's] Textmode Idling Program

Below are instructions on how to idle on a DoDS server, while using virtually no computer resources.
Original credit goes to GamingRobot32 for creating the batch file and the required research.
This guide has been modified to only include instructions pertaining to DoDS.​

Option 1 (Recommended)
Windows

1. Download the installer
   
2. Double-click on the installer you just downloaded and follow the steps.
   
3. Double-click the Desktop icon or the Start Menu icon to start the Idling tool.
   
4. Select the game you want to idle on.
   
5. Select a server to idle on.
   
6. TADA now you are idling.

Mac

1. Download the tool
   
2. If you're not using Safari, unzip the downloaded zip file
   
3. If you like, copy the application into your Applications folder or anywhere else on your computer
   
4. Open the application
   
5. Click buttons
   
6. Send oey192 a PM if anything doesn't work.

Option 2 (For Advanced Users)

Manually Setting Launch Options:

1. Open Steam library
2. Right-click Day of Defeat Source and click Properties
3. Click on "Set Launch Options.."
4. Enter the desired parameters and click ok
5. Remove launch options to return to normal program execution

Launch Options:

-textmode -nosound -nopreload +connect xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:27015

Parameters:

-textmode

• DoDS loads only a console instead of a full GUI and 3D application.
  This will use far less resources than normal execution. This command is required.

-nosound

• Disables any in-game sounds. Effectively mutes the application. This command is optional.

-nopreload

• Increases initial launch time in textmode. This command is optional.

+connect "serverip"

• Issues a command for the console to connect to a server. This command is required.
