Tech Division Launched

eGO's Technical Division

<div style="width: 550px; text-align: center" align="center">eGO is pleased to announce the newly-formed Technical Division. This entity will ensure that our servers and site are maintained. The division will consist of talented members who will work on projects which aim to keep eGO fresh and on the cutting edge.

The group has already contributed to eGO by improving areas of the community such as server management. The rate at which server changes can be applied has improved greatly when compared to previous months. Although a separate roster entry will be made, Tech leaders may still participate in a gaming division.</div>

For everyone's information, I believe this group is by invite only, as of such there will be no sign ups. It will likely also be only open to Leadership members, with the possibility of an O or two.

Control over servers is not something that we take lightly, at the moment the people in the tech team generally have more server access than even Division Leaders, so it is not something that will just be open to the general community.

My impression is that the 'Tech Division' was created for the few Advisors, Division Leaders, and Council Members who are actively involved in operating the servers across all Divisions, but don't necessarily have a Division to call their own.

I'd like to help I was an IT manager on a major local ISP for 6 years, I have a computer science degree and couple of cisco certs.

Now I?ve moved to game development but that is unrelated

I believe the difference in Leaderships is that with the other divisions you are in charge of people, and in the tech division you'd be in charge of projects and the tech side of things.

I don't see how this would work unless the current leadership have the technical knowledge to administrate the current servers. I'm not saying that they aren't technically proficient, because I honestly don't know.

I'm just saying if you exclude the majority of eGO, many who may be extremely proficient and have many years of background in system administration or programming, then you are not taking advantage of the community that you built and the knowledge at your disposal.

I understand that the security of the servers is important, and it should be closely guarded; which is a hard thing to do when you're dealing with people over the internet and can never know their true intents. I believe though that there are enough people who have proven, or could prove themselves worthy of the trust that would be required to be in the technical division.

Also, this is assuming that you would need server access in order to contribute to the division. There are many technical projects that could be worked and tested client-side and then pushed server-side by an administrator (leadership).

if it still is possible, i would like to join too. i'm studying IT and i love to work on servers.... i have only 1 problem.... this is my exam year and i am really bussy but i think i still have some time left

I appreciate that there is a technical division, and I appreciate that this will be by invite only. As with any business, I would encourage the decision makers to ensure you are recruiting quality certified professionals to handle leading and participating in this division. I would also encourage keeping this division extremely small. This will help limit and mitigate risk.

Now that we have a technical division, I will look forward to finally getting some results on our lag/ddos issues. Thank you to those individuals that stepped up to take on this otherwise thankless task.

Please encourage the financial officer(s) to pursue an IDS that includes BotNet, DDoS, and SYN flood protection. If you would like some recommendations, please feel free to PM me.

Considering I was able to tell my grandfather at 2 years old how to defrag his computer I'd like to join
