Monitor Problem

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: When I first turn my monitor on, it makes weird noises for about a minute or two and then stops. The screen also flickers for a short period of time and then stops also. These two problems only occur when I first turn my monitor on. After it's on for a few minutes it's fine.

WHEN / HOW OFTEN DOES THE PROBLEM OCCUR: When I first turn my monitor on.
RECENT CHANGES (SOFTWARE / HARDWARE / ETC): None.
LAST TIME COMPUTER WORKED FINE: About a week ago.
RECENT EVENTS: <power outage / lightning / BSOD> None.
THINGS YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO FIX PROBLEM: Nothing yet, because I have never had this problem and don't know what to do.

COMPUTER SPECS:

Operating System: Windows XP.
Processor: AMD Athlon 3500+.
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-E.
RAM: 1 GB.
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT.
Sound Card: Realtek AC97 Audio.
Hard drive: Seagate 250 GB.

I just hope this isn't the beginning of the end of my monitor working..

Now it constantly flickers, and it won't even stay on anymore.. it just goes blank even though the monitor is powered on. It's also making a weird nose.. someone please help.

It's a 17" LCD Plug and Play monitor, the brand is Optiquest/ViewSonic.

Hmmm, odd indeed. Monitors typically don't make much sound, so I'm unsure how to deal with it. But there's many standard things that might help you.

Take your monitor outside and get some compressed air and dust the thing. Dust and heat are the worst things for electronics.

After that, make sure all the cables are plugged in tight.

If that doesn't do it, then give it the fonz treatment, smack the damn thing.

I don't know if this will be much help, post again if you still have problems.

Well, I tested the monitor on another PC.. the one I'm on now and it did the same thing. Unfortunately, my monitor's warranty expired so I will have to get a new one.

Anyone have any recommendations for a new monitor? Okay, I looked on NewEgg and found an 19" widescreen Acer.. I read all the reviews, and everyone seemed to like it. There are a few problems with it, but nothing major.. (height of it, no tilt, etc.)
