Step 1- Go to the Steam\steamapps\(user name here)\day of defeat source\dod\sound\ui folder.
If the UI folder doesn't exist, create it.
If it does exist, remove the original gamestartup 1, 2, 3, and 4 mp3 files and put them elsewhere or delete them. DoD will run off it's main GCF mp3's if the ui folder becomes vacant so it doesn't matter.
step 2- Find some song that you like and copy/paste it 4 times into the sound\ui folder.
Right click those 4 copied MP3's, and rename them to gamestartup1 gamestartup2 gamestartup3 and gamestartup4
If you want the same song to play every time you load up DoD, then you would use the same MP3 4 times and rename it as I explained above.. If you want different songs then rename them the same way just different MP3's. 4 max.
Songs MUST be in MP3 format and have a sample rate of 22050 kz to 44100 Khz. Luckily 44100 is a common kilohertz frequency. If the song doesn't work it's sample rate is likely incompatible.
IF THE ABOVE DIDN'T WORK READ ON PLAYAS
k so If the song doesn't play, download audacity to check the rates frequency and change it. Takes 1 minute and it's simple.
Drag the song you want into audacity. At the bottom left corner of the window change the "Project Rate" to either 22050 or 44100. Both work. After that click file, select "Export", "Save as MP3 files". Done. Load it into the UI folder and rename it as explained above.
I decided to make this after GREAT frustration when attempting to change the DoD menu music. I grew tired of either downloading even worse music on game banana, and reading the few tutorials that didn't work or were outdated and useless.
I discovered parts of this myself, and put together some parts from some guys steam forum post from 2006. I hope whoever reads this finds it useful if they hadn't figured it out or whatever.
