Here is my 2 cents for ya'll.
As for dustbowl - change it. I pretty much share the same sentiments as everyone else regarding this map. I loathe it. As for what we change it to, I have no idea. I do have an idea of how to find out, though.
I think we should actually put up a different thread for voting as to regards as to what map we should change the 24/7 dustbowl to. Put up a long list of different maps suggested here as well as previously popular community maps and do elimination rounds until we get one everybody agrees on. Seems like a good idea, no? I'll explain further. You start off with a list of maybe, 3-5 maps. Those maps are voted for. Then, you set up another list of maps and have users vote for those. Keep repeating the process until you have only the chosen few left, and either do a rotation with those maps or do another vote to narrow down the map from there. The thing is, we need to be able to do this voting in a fashion that most of the TF2 Division can participate in. Perhaps use the forum's voting tool, or send out a mass PM to our TF2 division linking them to an outside website hosting this elimination voting. Also, user interests change over time, so we should have revotes maybe every 2 months or so. Seems like a lot of work, but if we can get it going it would satisfy everyone.
My next suggestion is to turn the events server into a custom maps rotation when its not being used. Many people have suggested this already. It would be a good way to continue to get members and keep the community happy while getting one of our servers that rarely gets used see some light of day and usefulness around here. As for how we determine the maps, see my earlier paragraph.
Suggestions number three: Less quickplay servers, more eGO. I've been seeing a distinct lack of my eGOmates on the TF2 servers lately and mostly just pubs. This is probably because 3 of our 4 servers are quickplay right now... and maybe because users are leaving faster than we can recruit them.
Another suggestion: if possible, add more servers. I have read recently that we used to have a lot of eGO TF2 servers, and now we only have four (not counting event). It was probably, as was said, due to splitting up assets and such, but we are a big healthy organization, right? We can get more servers running, can't we?
My final suggestion. There seems to be a distinct lack of communication between leadership and the community. The forums and PMing have shown to be not enough for us. Many of our newer members don't even go onto the forums and have no idea whats going on until its too late. Same thing with the Divisional Meetings on Ventrilo. That's pretty much how the whole map-change ordeals get started, I guess. I won't be the last to admit I'm one of those guys. So, why not make the eGO newsletter mandatory... and include the individual major divisional announcements specific to the users of each Division to raise awareness of whats going on to those who decide not to mingle as much or haven't had the time to (if we don't do that already). We could also post the major divisional announcements as they get discussed as alerts to everybody through the steam group as a "secondary" newsletter alert along with the event notifications. I don't even know if this is possible, really, but its worth looking into.
