New To Gaming

Hello eGO community, I'm sort of a newbie to this PC gaming community and I was recommended from Wewo of eGO and was always fascinated about all the possibilities I can do on PC such as modded servers. But I was hoping people of this community can help me with this issue I'm having. I want to get a desktop computer from scratch. Meaning from the ground up built. I was hoping I can get some suggestions on whats the best things to get such as motherboards and capture cards and such.

I'm not really going to be getting into new 2012-present day games a lot so a capture card, I won't need the top-of-the-line one. Most games I will be playing though are:

Left4Dead2
Call of Duty 4 and World at War

I'll really like to have some help on this so that way my gaming experience with the eGO community can be swift and perfect. Please and thank you.

Well, to best help you we need to know a budget and what peripherals you might need. Things like Windows, speakers, monitors, mouse and keyboard. As far as L4D2 and W@W are considered, I think you might be able to max them out at $600 for just the tower.

At $600 you could get an i3-2100 and a 7770 which would be plenty for W@W and L4D2.

This is my nephew, im gonna get him to join eGO once he gets set up He has been a console gamer for years. After talking to him, he needs the works, including monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system in addition to the basics. He will be building it himself, and I already suggested he use newegg for all or most of the parts. He has his eyes on a turtle beach headset that he can also use with consoles. I doubt his budget is over $1200 since his Dad is paying, lol. Wile I can help him generally, I suggested he post here because you guys know all the deals and have the latest news on price for value. BTW, I think he will also want to play CSS:Go when it comes out.

The only painstakig process in my build is me somehow cutting my finger on a part. The PC demands a blood sacrifice. And I need to stop fooling around with the fins of the CPU cooler. :lol:

Someone else will beat me to it, but we can price a decent gaming PC with peripherals for under $1200 soon, within a day or two (or should I say an hour or two...) :thumbup1:

^What he said. I personally dislike Antec cases, but to each his own. That really is completely up to buyer since so much of it is subjective taste.

Agreed, I usually do not like antec cases but after owning the case and found it a good priced case lol

An AMD at this point in time would be a bad choice, Since he's new i doubt he'll be overclocking so I'd recommend an i5 2400 as a CPU instead.
Doing this should provide enough extra money to perhaps upgrade to a 7870 or just cut down the costs a bit.

While I agree that I don't think he's OC'ing, I think the extra money is worth it for the possibility. Let's say three years from now he needs some extra CPU power, the 2500k is so easy to OC and so cool a chip that it's free performance. Instead of buying all new CPU/mobo/RAM it gives him the option of not spending money and still getting the performance he needs.

Agreed. It's only a $10-$20 difference at best. He definitely won't need to now, but he can extend the longevity and improve the performance of his CPU when the time comes.

Even if he's not using it now, or for several years, it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

EDIT: Don't bother with a soundcard unless you have the speakers to pimp them out, I'd say.

I don't know if you'll need aftermarket cooling immediately if you're not going to overclock right away (which you honestly shouldn't, or shouldn't have to at least), but that's IMHO. You could always buy the 2500K now and bother with aftermarket cooling when/if you do decide to overclock. I don't really feel the chip runs hot enough on stock rates to actively need aftermarket cooling without the intent of OC'ing.

Muffinz has a pretty great build going on -- I'd roll with it, though I'm not huge on that PSU and I think you could do better in terms of the motherboard (maybe change the GPU to an MSI -- their fans are mindblowing -- and the motherboard to an ASRock P67 or Z68 if he intends to add an SSD). That HDD and the monitor are both amazing.

My first attempt at a build for your budget. It's about $20 over $1200, shipped. Let me know if the image is too big and I'll hotlink it instead.

*I haven't used this RAM yet, but looking at what eGO users said in a previous thread (and what reviewers say online), it's beast-like. Order it instead if it's in stock if you go with this build.
*I own a Cooler Master Storm Scout case and I happen to like it, but cases are really subjective. Most of them tote the same amenities for different looks. This case is basically the same thing, just better-priced.
*The PSU I chose doesn't leave a lot of room for really hefty upgrades, but you could easily swap it out for a TX650 V2, even though it'll run you about $40 more.
*You could go for a cheaper GPU like an MSI 7850 and throw in a 64GB SSD for your boot drive, and be a little under-budget. Especially if you choose that RAM I suggested (when it's in stock).
