Game Review: PAYDAY™ The Heist

Regardless of your allegiance, the robbers always seemed to be more glamorous. Whether the crooks went down in a hail of gunfire, or they made a sly escape with the cash, the robbers were the rock stars. Overkill has delivered Payday: The Heist which allows you and three friends to rob anything from a drug dealer's safe, to a vault fill with diamonds.

In Payday, the player participates as one of four robbers who are pitted against never ending waves of police forces. The opposition also includes unique enemies such as riot shield-wielding cops and S.W.A.T. units. The game revolves around a four-player cooperative game play format, a la Left 4 Dead. While teamwork is the key to success, individual play styles are rewarded with three skill trees which hone each player's abilities. Additionally, each skill tree grants access to different weapons.

Interesting. Do a lot of people still play, and does it have a singleplayer option?
 
A lot still play it and there is a singleplayer which is also the multiplayer
 
It is like Left for Dead though. You have the single player option, but you are paired with computer AI that just gets in your way more than helping you.

Think Left for Dead, but robbing banks instead of running from zombies. Like how the review says.

The singleplayer gives you bots. I haven't played it in a while, but they were slowly getting updated to not be as bad as they were.
 
This is a great game to play together with friends. I bought it to just play with my brother and 2 school friends. I highly recommend it if you can get with some eGO members on vent and start a game.
 
What happened to Game ROM? I liked that a lot better. The media team doesnt seem to like to consistently do much.

I hope its not like before where they do 1 episode, call it a new season and do 1 more.

My best guess would be whoever was doing the videos got tied up and the direction got pulled another way. No clue on what really happened.

Ive played a tiny bit on a console when it came out, its pretty fun imo.


(I don't understand why people compare it to l4d lol )
 
How do you not compare it to L4D?

I mean I don't know the specifics but it plays and feels exactly like the AI Director engine. Instead of special infected you have special SWAT. Taser is the Smoker, Cloaker is the Hunter, there's even a tank like police officer.

Plus the way you can always see where your team-mates are via the green outlines. It's using the same engine as L4D so there are going to be some comparisons whether you like them or not.

It does something different with the engine I will say that, and it is a different game. I've had tons of fun playing it with my room-mate.

Overall good thread, I think it might be better advertised as an overview though, not a review.

I guess it is kinda like it XD
 
I play this game occasionally, It's really fun and cooperative. The Unlock system is balanced really well, too. It's better to play with friends than with the bots.
Graphics seem a little buggy though like the Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering.
But over all, It's really enjoyable and fun ;)
 
I got this game when it first came out, didn't like it at all, lots of bugs (invincible flying snipers???) and very few missions, it looked cool, thought I would negotiate with cops, keep the hostages in a room occasionaly killing them off, but I ended getting a refund.
