Vehicle Training

So... that skrim with FIST kicked our butts on the vehicle front last night. I'd never spent much if any time in vehicles in BF3 and as PBJ and I discovered, that didn't go over too well when nobody else was keen on chopper fighting. If anyone else is interested, I may start trying to form squads on the conq maps that are built entirely around mastering vehicular combat and strengthening that side of our team. Just a heads up if you see me flying/driving, now's your chance to come train with another teammate.

We will be having training sessions next week. We already had one on tanks a while back and next week we will focus on jet and heli's flying. Everyone just needs to show up to practice.

I think yea we have good enough tank/KillerLAV drivers we just need a pro chopper pilot and 2 pro jet pilots

You know, I played IL-2 (the original) for many years on ultimate realism settings. For those of you who don't know about it, it's a WW2 flight sim. I was recommended it by a real-life pilot because he said it was the closest thing you'll ever find to real-life flying and the only thing you're really lacking is the actual physical experience. He then told me after about a year that I should go try for my real pilot license (I didn't). So... WW2 jets? Super-realistic flight mechanics? YEAH BABY. Jets and helos in BF3? roflno. When I hop into a BF3 jet my inclination is to give it at least 30 seconds of engine spooling and run through my pre-flight check before dropping combat flaps, setting mixture to full rich and taxiing out onto the runway. I panic when I can't find the landing gear button. (In IL-2 that often translated to - Plane: "I don't like this. I'ma just let that wheel snap off. Oh, and that one, too. Oops. Your landing gear is jammed. Guess it doesn't matter, you won't be landing this crate successfully anyway.") This is a disaster in a game where knowing how to do a proper landing shows greater expertise than being able to gun someone down.

Tl;dr - I know how to fly, in theory, just need to figure out how to do it in the BF3 engine, and with a JET.

As for my disaster with iPBJ, I have ZERO clue what I'm doing with helos, short of BF2142 hover-choppers and some really bad attempts at troop transport in BFBC2 :huh:

Killer why you no put cookiiiiiiiiiiie as chopper pilot because on the RU team we need a good pilot to take out the inf cookiiiiiiiiiie is good on the ground but a good pilot IMO is ten times more effective then the best of soldiers

lets talk about this in the practice @ 8est tonight. The only problem is that Cookiee is the sqd captain this this time and it might be tough for him to guide his troops if he is in the air, but lets see what we can do.

I like to think I'm a pretty good chopper pilot if I have a gunner that knows what he's doing. Flying by myself is suicide, too easy to shoot down choppers with Stinger's now. That's the one thing I have to get used to is not being able to fly right down on the ground anymore. Need to keep altitude now.
