Dustbowl so un-popular?

All of this is my opinion on it, so don't take it seriously.
When Valve Maps first started, Dustbowl was that map that would fill the server, even though us original starters hated that map to death. This was because it can usually be a RED win almost all the time if you're running like 3-5 engies, which will usually happen, especially if the server is full.
I don't like the map personally just because A/D isn't that much fun to me (excluding Steel, of course).

i love dustbowl and try to play there as much as i can, but i get caught up in other stuff and the server is empty a lot. i see a bunch of calls to fill some of the other servers when they are empty, never for dustbowl though.... maybe ill start hitting people up to fill it!
The reason it doesn't fill is because we don't fill it. It's going to need the community's support before it can get it's feet off the ground. Your post doesn't specify if you like the server or not but if you do like it you're going to have to work hard to keep it.
Even foundry and Valve maps need help filling in the mornings, most of the time they are full early because Kazoo and myself fill them (mostly kazoo). If you like Dustbowl and want it full start spamming your friends with invites, I'd happily join to get it started but i'm not going to try and fill it all by myself.

I think that people just don't know what they have until it is gone. For example, Valve Maps was switched to something, then Blackmesa was switched to dustbowl, so on and so on. People really just need to know if they really like a server, all you have to do is idle on it and do something else for a while. That is how you can keep your favorite servers. Another easy way to keep your favorite servers, is to recruit! Recruiting people increases the number of people in the division plus it increases server numbers.

I'm assuming we are talking about our Dustbowl server rather than the map itself (which I think is fine; no hate or love for it).

And since it is usually empty or with very few people, people would rather play in other servers that are almost full or can fill easier.
As Roker mentioned, some of us fill VM and Foundry in the morning (and 2fort when it empties). I'd like to fill Dustbowl as well, but that is one server that just doesn't fill easily. It's pretty much impossible in the morning, and I can only help in the mornings before going to school. :/

Codo and Frisky are correct (imo).
the map is old and stale. People that still say they love Dustbowl are the ones that only loved Dustbowl. Sure it might have seemed like a good idea to put a Dustbowl only map, but TF2 is an aging game and maps like that won't always work for the purpose of why it was chosen.

its mesa's fault, people were mad when it went away, and dustbowl replaced it, so people were mad at dustbowl...... and then whenever we got it full, people would leave, and then it would be empty, like it would be full one minute, i would go afk, and when i got back, it was empty, unless you guys were pranking me, it would empty out really fast
