Tell me what you guys think! Starting now, I will save money, and periodically buy the parts over time, with the graphic card last. I will most likely start with the case. The 7000 series GPUs are pretty good and should be able to run BF3 at near to max settings. I should be able to run quite a lot of stuff. Feedback?
 
I've always liked newegg more and not be an amd hater but their new cpus are pretty bad.
I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz.. to bad it was deactivated xD Also you should consider saving up a little more for a better cpu. It would save you some money in the long run.

Also I would wait until you have all of the money to order everything at once, prices will go up and down with the releases of newer stuff. Plus a good sale might pop up
 
Frankly, I would replace that FX-4100 with an i3-2100 and get an equivalent mobo. And instead of the 7770 look for a 6850 or 6870. The 6850 is cheaper and faster, while you might be able to find the 6870 for the same price and is even faster.

As for the case, I'd look for a Fractal Design in the same price range. That's more up to personal taste, but Apevia isn't really a well-known name. In Win might also have cases that you'd like and are well-known for how good their cheap cases are.

ill probs try to up the 4100 to the 8150 when i get everything set up and try it out, and the only reason im throwing the 4100 on there is becuase of the 3.60 ghz speed, but i think i just changed my mind and is now in love with the 4170, amd like before, its pretty fast, which is pretty good, even if its not overclocked, it runs at 4.20 ghz, and rock, the Sapphire Radeon 6850 is actually more expensive than the 7770
 
yeah i have the 8120 i like it. but all teh fx chips are really easy to overclock. im overclocking to 4 GHZ from 3.1 with plenty of room to overclock more
 
the max for mine is 6.3 and thats just the advised limit not the max though more than that is bad for your chip
 
Everyone says the FX CPUs are bad. Not true. They provide a huge amount of bang for buck.

That is the conclusion from the review you linked to Texas ;). The i3 is either ahead or tied with the 4100. Thus, they consider it the better buy for a gaming rig. While one can overclock the 4100 to alleviate the bottleneck somewhat, I prefer the upgrade path to ivy bridge over bulldozer.

If overclocking isn't really an option, and this is strictly a gaming rig, then the i3 is the better buy. Clock speed is not the only thing to consider. Bulldozer single threaded performance cannot match sandy bridges. Thus, a quad core bulldozer at 3.0 ghz and a quad core sandy bridge at 3.0 ghz will not have the same performance. Intel will have a significant advantage.

Also, if you possibly have a microcenter near you, you can get a i5 2500k for a huge savings close to the price of that 4170.

This setup is only 812$? I got my crappy Alienware m17x r1 from my computer guy for like 1000$+ off and it doesn't run the alienware software so its basically just a regular computer. I really regret buying it and wish I bought something like this. If I wasn't 15 I would definitively sell this computer and buy something like this.

the pre-mades are usually more expensive than building a computer, and i keep hearing about how good ivy bridge will be, but frankly, i favor AMD over Nvidia when it come to GPUs, and AMD over Intel in CPUs. Intel tends to make their prices between 500-1000$. And AMD is much cheaper, and that advantage in a sandy bridge is probs a very small one, so either way the two you're talking about, are the same, plus i'll probably end up getting rid of the 4100 after about a year when i work up the cash, but even then it'll still be an AMD, if im going to switch to Intel, i'll have to switch the motherboard out
 
Favoring one brand over another is really limiting yourself. You should appreciate the fact that one product is better than another, and therefore help yourself to the best bang for your buck. Sandy bridge doesn't have a small advantage over bulldozer, or it would not be universally recommended with it being more expensive.

Single core performance of bulldozer is destroyed by sandy bridge. It even looses to its own last gen cpus.

While these aren't 1080p, this forces the issue of a cpu bottleneck. This shows the impressive performance of sandy bridge vs bulldozer. Not a small advantage I'd say.

In actual application benchmarks, the 2 are pretty evenly matched. But if this is a gaming machine, and if you do not plan to overclock, the i3 is the better cpu with the better upgrade path.
 
A) The reason that Alienware was so expensive is because it's an Alienware and because it's a laptop. Desktops are a completely different beast than laptops.

B) Sandy Bridge tops out at $300 with the i5-2700k and the preferred i5-2500k can often be found at $180. What you're thinking of is SB-E which are not price/performance options. Nobody is suggesting you buy them. As huck has stated, the i5-2500k outperforms the FX line so absurdly much that it's not even funny. Between the i3-2100 and FX-4100 it's not much of a difference.
