No matter how you look at it, May is a month of transition. Change is in the air, the weather is growing warmer, and students are beginning summer break by gaming with fellow eGO's or experimenting with this new theory called "real life".

Of course in the past month eGO has also made some transitions. Read this month's newsletter to learn about recent retirements and promotions at all levels, the iPad giveaway and all the newest developments in each of the divisions.

Unfortunately not all changes are happy ones. We regret to report the passing of Francis Yu. Francis was a long time member of eGO and could frequently be found with his rockets on Donner. Please read the Day of Defeat article for the details. He will be missed.

Want to read a game review by someone you actually know? Want to write one? Check out eGO's General Gaming discussion forum.

Current topics on the GGD include Android Games, Firefall, Shoot Many Robots, Tribes Ascend, Dark Souls, Grand Theft Auto 4...

The list goes on, and on.

Did you know that Blizzard raised the ire of feminists with one of their games' dialogs? Have you seen the Medal of Honor Warfighter Trailer? Did you make it to the Diablo 3 Open Beta Weekend. If you have a hankering to step outside your division's purview, you should come on over to the General Gaming Discussion. They even have a subforum to trade and list old games.

By Quaffer

The Personnel Service Center has new achievements for recruiting. They now boast a 500 recruit milestone, a 750 milestone and for the uber recruiters, and a 1000 milestone. If you have an interest in helping eGO, the PSC is always looking for new members. Please remember that you must have admin to join the PSC. Be patient e's, they will still be there when you earn your G.

The Top Recruiter for the month of April was Transparent_Shadow. The Top Recruiter for March was BmXImDead. Feel free to spam their messages.

For all those interested in the PSC's upcoming events, you will find them listed at the bottom of any of the accepted applications. Drop by the PSC forum and have a look. We also encourage you to occasionally read the Start here thread and re-acquaint yourself with the rules. We're willing to bet you've forgotten at least one of them; and you never know when a member of the leadership will chat you up and give you a pop quiz. Make a good impression.

Let's wrap this up on a high note. Join us as we congratulate Blindy for receiving the Distinguished Service Award. When you get the chance please thank Blindy for his dedication.

Battlefield

By Zimmy

The Battlefield division flourished during the month of April. For starters, they kicked off this month with a couple of very successful recruiting drives, netting several new faces (and voices) into both Ventrilo and the organization.

Also, BF has introduced a new event: Battlefield Assassin. Unlike the customary one-hour events, this event will played on the public servers over a period of several weeks. Each member who signs up is assigned a target. Their goal is to take down their target with a knife kill and take the target's dogtags. The target is then eliminated from the competition and the hunter is assigned a new target. The last person standing at the end of the event is awarded a prize.

While we're on the topic of events, VeRtAg0, former Event Coordinator, was recently promoted from Advisor to Division Leader to further help serve the community alongside LilShortstuf. Be sure to drop by his profile and wish him your best as he takes on new responsibilities within eGO and the BF division.

Last, the second season of PCGN BF3 Competitive league has started. It is 16v16 players on large Conquest maps. As of the date this article was written the eGO Team is 2-0. Matches are held on Sunday nights at 9:00 pm EDT and practices and scrims are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 pm EDT. Anyone interested in joining can PM VeRtAg0 or killercankill.

Call of Duty is proud to announce the 2 vs. 2 Top Gun Tournament. This tournament will be open to all players and teams will be chosen randomly before the tournament begins. Call of Duty Reward points will be awarded to the winners.

You can also earn Call of Duty Reward points by recruiting; each recruit earns you one reward point. Reward points can be exchanged for games and can also be used on Zazzle.

Ten Man 5 vs. 5 scrims are also in the offing. We are happy to be able to tell you that MOD Mondays are back. Vote for your favorite and be there on Monday nights to play. I hear paintball is ahead in the polls.

Counter-Strike

By Muffinz

The Counter Strike Division has had another outstanding, but not trouble-free month. Leadership is closely monitoring and attending to the servers to address server stability. For more information on this topic see the stickied forum post by Iamevilbear here.

Event attendance has been a roller coaster ride, going up and down with every event. If you have not gone to an event lately, it is highly recommended that you do so as the CS event coordinators have been doing a tremendous job. Here's a peek at the upcoming events: Deadly Death Run, Surf Night, Hide-N-Seek, Gun Game, Dog Tag Scrim, Euro Hour and that's just in the first two weeks.

Recruiting Drives are every Tuesday, with prizes given out at each event. All are welcome to attend and help in bringing in some new recruits.

Make sure, as always, to check the calendar to see the upcoming events for the CS division since there is usually one every day.

Day of Defeat

Francis Yu
We start off this month’s newsletter with solemn news. The Day of Defeat Division has lost one of its members. Sadly, Kelvin Yu (Francis Yu) has lost his battle with cancer and passed away on April 14, 2012. Please feel free to offer your sympathy to the Yu family here. Further condolences, memories, or words of farewells can be said at Francis Yu's Guestbook.

Promotions
The DOD:S Division has just seen a rash of promotions and I would like to personally congratulate all members who have just received their G or their O. The full listing of promotions can be found here. Do not forget to apply to your respective private forums and to sign up for admin classes in the admin trainer private sub-forum.

Events
DOD:S events are as popular as ever. Thanks to the vigilance of leadership and some fun ideas from non-leadership members the DOD:S event calendar is always fun and exciting. Meg’s A Tagger has been posting the weekly DOD:S Event Schedule which runs from Monday to Sunday each week and the full schedule listing can be found here.

Server Rankings
Thanks in part to the iPAD competition and the excellent work of our own DOD:S Rangers, a group dedicated to filling eGO DOD:S servers, we have seen a massive increase in ranking of our Donner server. It currently sits second worldwide, passing our regular top server Avalanche, which was ranked 6th in the World as of April 23, 2012. The Strand (Charlie) server remains in the top 25 in the 21st position, Kalt is in at 80 and Anzio has breached the top one hundred again, sitting at 99. Up to date server rankings can be found on the game tracker site at this link.

EVE.png

EVE. A game so deep you could play for months and still only experience a fraction of what it offers. Currently our Corp, which is in the Dark Taboo Alliance, is continuing it's focus on Incursions, missions that, in some instances, require an entire fleet to complete.

The Corp is still looking for new recruits from both in and outside eGO to further expand it's goals. The following are some of the benefits of being in our Corp.

First, you can join in on incursions. However, be sure to get your ship skills up to par so you don't get instakilled before you can actually help. With proper training and the right plan you will be on your way in no time. According to 2slow, Eve's Council member, you can average 7 – 10 million ISK (the in game currency) per 10 minutes from these incursions.

Another incentive to join is the 5% corp tax compared to the NPC corp tax of 11%. All in all it means joining the Corp just means more ISK in your wallet to spend on bigger and better ships... or just more ships to lose in bouts of PvP.

For those interested in sampling Eve, if you get a free trial from a current player you have 21 days to try it out, rather than the normal 14-dy trial period.

Also, to further their current recruitment plan, Socretez has been recently promoted to Recruitment Officer. So be sure to bug him about joining this prestigious corp. When asked what he thought about being promoted he had this to say, “Being a Recruitment Officer is like waking up every morning to a freshly cut coconut with a tiny umbrella and straw prepped and ready.”

Operation X

OPX.png

By PBJ

For many veteran eGO members, you may remember a time when Operation: X went by a much simpler name: the Insurgency division. While that game is no longer supported, the division continues to prosper, testing new games for eGO to enjoy: Arma II, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Red Orchestra 2. Some feel that these games may be among the most attractive eGO has to offer.

Star Wars: The Old Republic
If you’ve ever had an interest in wielding a light-saber and you’re looking for an adventure, definitely pick up Star Wars: The Old Republic. Since the game’s release in December, eGO members have exhibited phenomenal support and dedication, especially to our Jedi and Sith guilds (which can both be located in Port Nowhere).

Recruiting is high for an MMO, supported by existing members from OP:X and various other divisions. Remember, all eG’s and above can invite players to join the guild. Just remember to refer recruits to our website.

Despite other successful aspects, events participation has been lacking. Other than the popular DataCron hunts, most events lack participants. If you attend events regularly you could be selected to win an attendance prize. If you plan to attend events, connect to Ventrilo a few minutes early for a briefing.

Additionally, teams are being set up for the upcoming ranked PvP patch. Every player who has attained rank 50 has been awarded with an extra free month of gameplay. If you meet this requirement but haven’t yet renewed your subscription or don’t have plans to, log in to receive this promotion at no cost.

According to Advisor Bodayga, the best way to be considered for a promotion is to “Support other members, maintain a positive gameplay attitude, and keep the phrase ‘calm, cool, and collected’ in mind.” This month, one star member displayed these attributes in their generosity. Leadership would like to extend their thanks to Horton for donating 4 codes for an exclusive in-game Tauntaun pet from PAX East.

Red Orchestra 2
Released September 13, 2011, Red Orchestra 2 has begun to slow down, but with new content on the horizon, we may be looking at a revival. Evidenced by the forerunner to the game, player-developed modifications create a brand-new, unique, and intense experience for players. Thus, with the tools about to be released, players are looking forward to the patch. eGO’s servers have continued to stay fairly full, and are hoping for a surge of new players with newly installed mods.

Arma II
Last but not least, Arma II has been hailed as one of the most realistic FPS games to date; it’s often described as going one step further, to a true combat simulation. Maps average 256 square kilometers, and contain vehicles (though eGO is currently an infantry-only unit, air and armor are expected at a later date). Within these massive areas, skirmishes can be custom-scripted to produce a unique result each time. To follow the trend, military conduct is also enforced. Orders are passed along a chain of command, and specific procedures must be followed in order to be successful. Because of this system, eGO’s server is private, and only accepts current members.

However, events are a different story. Rather than co-op, the games becomes PvP, and take place in a somewhat more lax environment. Recently launched, the zombie event has quickly skyrocketed to fame among the division, and is currently hailed as the best ARMA II event.

Strategy

Strat.png

By Muffinz

The Strategy division has had a great month. Recruiting numbers continue to be good, but as always, there is room for improvement. As many of you may know, the Minecraft server has had some issue of being corrupted when saving. Leadership is working vigorously to find a solution to this problem.

World of Tanks continues to amaze leadership with all of eGO's recent wins. Many other clans are also in awe, wondering how eGO continues to dominate. Much of our success can be attributed to our willingness to work as a team and /// CENSORED ///* in battle. We are grateful for the inspiration of and guidance of Dutchoper72, as well as many other tankers.
*[EGO] Security would like us to remind you to "Keep mum – she's not so dumb". Loose talk costs lives.

League of Legends is also doing quite well, with event attendance remaining steady. Be sure you check the forums to see the upcoming events.

World of War Craft as always is doing very well. They continue to have successful raids and popular events. Don't forget that Vent is a useful and fun tool.

Team Fortress 2

TF2.png

By Quaffer

I spoke with Team Fortress 2 division leader CrazyWolf for an update.

The big, exciting news is that The BlackMesa server is coming back. BlackMesa had been shut down due to a fall off in server activity. However loyal players who had made the Mesa their home have provided eGO with the funding to bring the server back for six months. If it gets enough play time, it may be continued after the funding expires. If you are a fan of the Mesa get on the server and boost their player count. Say hi to Steve (the fish in the acid pool) for me.

TF2 leadership would like you to take a moment and congratulate Noise who has been promoted to Advisor. Noise will be working with the event coordinators. Keep an eye on the calendar for future events. They would also like to wish Advisor vudu well as he makes the transition to the Operation:X division.

Here is a piece of trivia for you. The TF2 division has a backpack on steam called the eGO Backpack. Players can transfer donations to the backpack from their unwanted items and TF2 will use them as prizes or to craft them into new items to be given out as prizes. So help eGO out by doing your spring cleaning. Be honest, how much scrap metal do you really need?
