Both are good.
MG42 is best for ramboing and mowing down tons of people in .05 seconds with its high rate of fire, but sucks for longer distances
30 cal isn't as easy to rambo with, (still possible though ), but a 30 cal can tear through people at long distances with its lower rate of fire and higher accuracy.

I love the accuracy of the american MG. Unlike the german MG, i can actually hit where my crosshairs are pointing lol.

30 cal is better if the enemy is at a distance, just because it's way more accurate. MG42 is better for close range, due to its higher rate of fire.. and its accuracy is good enough for close targets, it's also better for ramboing.

In short, 30 cal for long distances, MG42 for close range.

I prefer the MG42 over the 30cal, plainly because of its use historically and the rate of fire on it RAWR

I like the MG42. I like the high rate of fire,the rambo factor and it just sounds mean.

definately nazis... on ava the axis always know what to do the allies 75% of the time are clueless. also i feel their weopons are better for my style ( close quarter in your face )

Allie MG More accurate slower rate of fire 150 rounds overall 450 rounds
Axis MG less accurate faster rate of fire 250 rounds overall 500 rounds

The farther you are away the better it is I believe to have the Allie MG because of its accuracy at long distances. Axis MG has a circular firing box that fires in a circular motion where it envelops the spot not really firing onto the target you are aiming at.

Axis will be useful for covering close corners up to medium range combat.
