So early in the wee hours of this morning... My Razer Megaladon headset randomly decided to kick the bucket. It's a wired headset that uses an "out of computer processing" module that's hooked somewhere in the middle of the cord... and it's not recieving power from the USB. Lasted 4 months. My crappy $20 headset: lasted that many in years.

My keyboard... Also Razer, Blackwidow Ultimate yadayada... Also crap. Don't buy either they suck something fierce. Still works, but it's a HUGE pain in the tush.

GJ Razer for bringing up the rear.

I was going to go buy a Naga for epic gaming, but now that all this has happened to me, I think I'll stick to bulky, reliable Logitech. and a g35 headset, again.

Bummer. I've never owned a "gaming" headset per se, but found that sometimes the cheapest headsets are the best for the value. Hope you get a replacement soon!

Go Logitech. They're not "fancy" but everything they've ever made has treated me incredibly well... and I'm a technology snob.

I like it a lot. The headphones aren't quite noise cancelling so you don't completely lose yourself but they cancel enough noise that you can play when there is background noise. Also the flexible mic is really handy because I am not the most gentle person in the world and not having to worry about breaking that is nice. They are also quite comfy! Sure they say they are an xbox headset but they work well for PCs too.

Buy the g930's off vert they are pro i use them but if you want even better headsets get the astro a40's they are MLG headsets
 
Personally I use a really comfortable pair of Sony headphones [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-XB500-Diaphragm-Driver-Headphones/dp/B001RB24S2[/ame] with a Logitech table mic[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-981-000246-USB-Desktop-Microphone/dp/B002RL84OY[/ame]. Maximum comfort for those leg-numbing gaming sessions ;)

They're both great, and I find separating mic from headset leaves you more options if something breaks and generally lowers the price as well if you know where to look :P

By far the best headset I have ever purchased.

P.S. They only start to hurt after 12 hours of non stop gaming... I only know this from the GW2 Beta Weekend. No I am not a 12 hour a day gamer.
 
I have a Razer DeathAdder and it's been fine for years, but the middle mouse click did wear out.

I've been using an Asus Xonar DX + Audio Technica ATH-AD700 for gaming.
 
I have a black widow and love it, never given me a problem once and with my line of work it's hammered constantly. I have heard of fluke ones where keys stick and other stuff like that. Guess I got a solid one.

My head set I got for 4 bucks and amazingly it's one of the better ones I've ever had.

Mouse I have had for years now it's a steel series WoW mouse from when I used to play wow. Worn out to high hell now but every button on it works great still. Problem is I don't need 15 button for BF3 =\ Though it is nice to have dpi settings change at the touch of a button.
 
I have had a deathadder for years and its been perfectly fine. I did have a blackwidow but that only broke because I spilt mtn dew on it...twas a sad day
 
i bought one of the new blackwidow ultimates and it works just fine playing rpgs, shooters, mmo's, strategy games what have you never had a problem with it plus i love the clickiness of the mx blue switches. I also use the razer naga molten and never have a hiccup with it, its an amazing mouse worth every penny and is so comfortable to use.

as for headsets, here is a tip never buy razer headsets they are overpriced and their quality is not worth the price, my bro's megalodon compared to my headset shows me the difference in quality between headsets of the same price. read reviews for headsets before buying them, the megalodon has pretty mediocre reviews on newegg. I personally use this headset the sound quality is amazing, it comes with free THX software that allows you to custom tune your sound for different games or you can just choose one of the 20+ profiles it comes with. it is pretty new and the same cost as the megalodon but it blows it out of the water, but if you dont like wireless headsets you might not want it. I however adore the wireless feature because i can listen music or videos and what not and walk out of my room and still hear everything. plus the reviews for the headset have pretty much been consistently great

plus, they have some of the largest headset drivers you will find, 50mm drivers whereas most headsets have 30-40mm drivers. if you turn these all the way to 100 and play BF3 you will go deaf, i can only play games or music around 25/100 comfortably

That sucks man =(. I have no suggestions for you Soc. I've only ever used cheap $20 keyboards and relatively cheap headsets. Using a Logitech H390 right now. Not very high end, not the most comfortable, but for the price ($35 @ Target) it is comfy enough (only starts to hurt my ears after about 3-4 hours of use) and has been very reliable (has lasted me about 6 months with no problems)
 
Sorry guys I should've been more clear. The issue I have with the BlackWidow is not ghosting or timing lag. It's the friggen Macro function that just so happens to sit next to its activator. You have to hit FN and ALT and they are BOTH next to each other and in the heat of the moment, I have fatfingered those two keys more times than I am proud of and it shuts down any key functions and then starts repeating my keystrokes and totally fracks me up for about 5 minutes while I reset my keyboard and I CAN'T turn off that function.

As for the headset, the quality of sound and comfort was pretty exceptional (I wore it for about 24 hours straight no pain), however it's fragile as hell.

Still though, for 120+ dollars, I'd like a little durability. And I made a mistake, I got the headset in late September, so it's 7 months old.

I'll take up vert's offer though and grab dat coupon, but unless it has an expiration, I'm trying to just get mine replaced by Razer.

yea if you have problems with that headset being fragile make sure the headset you choose has some sort of reinforcement in the area you had trouble with, like my headset they have a metal support running through the headset for added durability. as for the issue with the macro key, that sounds odd to be hitting that function key accidentally (speaking from the perspective of a righty) if you are a lefty and have your keyboard set up differently i could see problems hitting that key but if you are a righty it would seem a bit odd to use that alt key. i personally have never hit both keys like that but i guess everyone does things differently
 
Krod, the headset itself was made of reinforced concrete. But the chord itself was total crap. What it's made out of is that twisted nylon stuff and it goes from your computer (USB) to a control unit that is located in the middle of the chord from your computer to your headset. That box is what got all fracked up. It no longer recieves power as the chord attatched to it has stopped function correctly. It's been escalating from minor issues for about a month and a half.
 
the cord is where most headphones/earphones/and some headsets fail. The internal wiring may have split or messed up and that is probably what is causing all of your problems. Many companies can get away with giving a cheap cord on a decent set of headphones.
The more cable length you have, there will be more spots where a problem occur. The more built in cable connections you have the more problems you may have.
My recommendation to u socretez is if u can find another cable(s) for your headset, buy it, and swap it with your broken one. But only do that if you know what u r doing and if it is worth it.

hmph thats bad luck, usually nylon chords are really nice to have. luckily for me, my headset is wireless :)
