mouse issue

Today my mouse started flickering in and out of power really bad. So far it hasn't stopped. It is a usb mouse so it shouldn't be a power issue. I checked to make sure it wasn't a driver issue. I changed ports to make sure it wasn't the port. This is the first time I've ever had a mouse do this. Is it just time to get a new one or is there something else I can troubleshoot? I have a very limited budget so I want to make sure it isn't something else before I waste money on a new mouse. Thanks.

Peripherals can act quite strange, given the right circumstances. Age coupled with wear / tear play a role. You already went through the drivers, moving from USB ports to USB ports, etc. One good equalizer is to try another optical mouse in the same PC, without issue for a couple of days. If the symptom does not present, I would say it is physically at a point where you are better off replacing it.

What mouse do you have?

If it is still young, you might be able to get away with an RMA from the manufacturer. If not and you are strapped for cash there are some pretty good deals to be had on the web.
